Since both have the same price range, why do people prefer going for the TRD Models? Don't the 4x4 got a better resell value than the 4x2?

    Whole bunch of shit! $$$
4x4, why not for the same price. Or get the 4x2 TRD and get a cool ass sticker on the bedside!

I would think the 4x4 would have a better resale, especially in the areas I have lived.

Not sure where you live, or your intention for a truck, but for me, 4x4 always....better resale, better look, better offroad options.

Or come to Canada and buy mine...absolutely loaded 2016 sport 4x4 with lots of extras...you can have it for $31,500 US plus tranfer/import fees :)

I had a Pre-Runner previously, and it did everything I needed it to do. I had a 4x4 F-150 and NEVER used the 4x4.

So I got a 4x2. I live in Florida, mainly use the truck to haul bikes, kayaks and paddle boards.

    Buy what suits your needs.

In my opinion 4x4 is worth the extra $2500 or so for the resale value alone.... but that depends on your location

I agree, buy what suits your needs. A lot of the 4x2s I have seen for sale are in the Florida area.

:frusty: There is no added resale value. Yes you get more back, maybe half what you paid since it depreciates just the same as a 2wd, but also because you paid more upfront. You are basically spending a dollar to get 50 cents back. Then there is the added financing costs, insurance, gas, maintenance and there is more to break. Ever see the cost of a front diff or transfer case replacement? Horrible advice. Down here in Texas we don't need it for the weather (for the rare winter events it is so flat 2wd is just fine in most cases/areas), so unless you off road it is a worthless and financially horrible choice. Either you need it or you don't down here, but many cases it is an image thing having that little 4x4 badge to make them feel alpha. It doesn't look any different either, no one can tell with trucks these days.

Yup. If I lived somewhere where snow was a frequent issue, or considered off-roading a hobby of mine, I'd get a 4x4. I can also see how people who tow/launch boats would opt for 4x4.

Here are some Screenshots from KBB of the exact same sr5 truck one 4x4 and one 4x2. As you can tell the 4x4 is worth over $3000 more than the 4x2 truck so your whole fifty cents on the dollar claim is debunked. Toyota doesn't even charge this much for it from the factory. Like, so many.
If my options were SR5 4x4 or TRD 4x2, I'd go SR5 every time. I don't need 4WD often, but when I do, I really do.

Better suspension, more standard features, more available models/colors on dealer lot since TRD's are the most popular model by far. For the TRD OR, 4x2 with a locker is more than capable for most (minus snow) for the same prices as a less equipped SR5 4x4.

It all depends on your interest, heavy trail rider i'd say 4x4, but just the occasional trail ride i'd go for the TRD, they are built for that.

Is a TRD 4x2 more than capable for most? Yes. But spending the same if not more on a 4x2 vehicle with a cool decal and some minor goodies, over a 4x4 SR5, just doesn't make sense to me. I would rather get the SR5 and add on the little goodies that I felt like I needed. Meanwhile I have a truck that is much more capable, and maintains a better resale. But you know what, to each their own, I'm glad those people have the option to get EXACTLY what they want, even if I don't understand/agree. There are many people out there who don't understand buying a Taco at all. Now they just deserve to die...

Buying a 4x2 SR5 is entirely different ballgame, I completely understand forgoing 4x4 if you will never use it. Might as well save your money and put it else where. Buying the 4x4 for resale alone is just stupid IMO.

Personally, I'd go for 4X4. I'd use it though. Besides that, they do hold their value better than 4X2s even though you pay more up front. Around here that's just how it is. Every redneck Cajun down in South Louisiana has got to have 4X4.

    4x4 for sure.

You don't need the TRD "features" and many, if not all of them, can be added down the line if you really really think you need them.

I couldn't agree more! I still don't understand why anyone would by a truck that is not 4x4 just for the occasion of needing it and not having vs having it and never needing it feeling. I was just thinking of some reasons some folks could justify the TRD 4x2 of SR5 4x4 if they do not value 4x4.

Agree but most owners will never add a single "mod" to their trucks. There is a reason the TRD models are the sales leaders. Probably stickers...
