I just think it's strange that the OR gets the locking rear diff and MTS. They both do the same thing but the MTS won't snap an axle if you get traction at differing speeds across the axle.

MTS will lock a wheel and allow the drive shaft to only turn the wheel with traction. It is that strong when boosted externally. But I don't know if TRAC can do that on all of the other models

Well there are reasons why a true locker is better than MTS for extreme off road situations. The most capable vehicle would have front AND rear lockers. If you don't understand that, I don't have the time to explain it to you.

The upcharge for the OR (~$6,000) gets you locking diff and terrain-select gimmicks (what do these even do?).

The price difference is only about 3000 from the SR5. A locker makes both half shafts spin at the same speed. A locker is not a gimmick. MTS uses an electric pump to actuate the braking system to keep each of the wheels spinning at the same speed. This is also not a gimmick

I didn't realize that mts was that strong of a system, not many systems can put enough engine power to one wheel with traction. I know trac as well as atrac definitely can not!

TRAC uses a vacuum boosted braking system. MTS and CC use an electric pump beside the brake booster.

So if you were flexed and only one rear wheel had traction it could send enough power to that one wheel to move the truck along?

as long as the tire can stick, yes. If the conditions are too poor to hold any tire, then they will all spin at the same speed. The truck cannot make traciton. The brake will fire on the lifted wheel until it is doing the same speed as the down wheel.

Also, I only know that MTS, OR only, can keep a wheel from turning at low speeds. I don't now if TRAC has the brake power to do that

I would like to see that. All the extreme videos I have seen of the trd off road show them engaging the rear diff lock to climb rocks when he truck is flexed and 2 or more tires are unloaded with no traction.

I realize trucks can't "make" traction, that wasn't what I was getting at. I have seen a lot of 4wd system that claim to do things, and when on the roller test with 3 of the 4 wheels on rollers, the 4th wheel on solid ground only rocks a bit, but the system never has the ability to send enough power to that wheel to move the vehicle forward. (Except Subaru)

    Just questioning that's all.

Get that on video with an OR. It's gonna sound like it's about to blow up, but it will do it

That's a good system then. Now if they'd just sell the off road in a double cab in Canada, heck I'd even settle for a dcsb
