That would be why I ordered it. Even if I ordered and didn't buy it someone would. The truck I described are all off the shelf Toyota parts. The only thing out of the ordinary would be the vehicle wire harness that supports no atrac LED, lights plus the locker, how difficult is that? add the locker to the Sport. Along with manual seats with SR5 Trail Edition fabric

Toyota was just the example I used could be any manufacturer. I can't order an XL F-150 fulltime 4wd with 502A projector LED headlights. I could custom order what ever option packages Ford will combine on what ever trim they offer.

If every vehicle component has a set price build the vehicle to customer specs and charge accordingly. I know it complicates the overall production process but it can be done.

When I was a little kid my dad worked at a Buick garage as a mechanic. I got to go there sometimes on Saturdays. This would have been 1970 or so.
Back then, you could order a Buick exactly how you wanted it with endless options. I remember this story because of the outcome....
An elderly lady had ordered a Brown Buick, don't remember the model, Electra 225 maybe, with brownish gold paint, red seats and, seriously, blue carpet. You could do that back then. Just customize away.
Anyway, she put down her deposit, it got ordered and the day it arrived she died before she ever saw it.
The reason I remember it was it sat on the lot, for sale, for two years. The dealer finally ordered a complete new interior (headliner, seat belts, steering wheel and seats and carpet and door cards and everything) and sold it at a huge loss.
This is what happens when you give too much freedom to choose.

I had one of the first SR5's. It was a 1973 Corolla. Put a down payment when I read they were coming out. Had to wait a few months before they started showing up and had to settle on a color I wasn't keen about but I didn't want to wait many more months. It was a "mustard gold". Turned out to me a great car that lasted over 200K miles and only needed regular maintenance like oil changes and a couple of batteries.

That’s a huge deal back when cars didn’t last 40k miles.

Discount it enough someone would have bought. I also wouldn't order a truck that was speced to reflect bad taste.

You probably would not. I have read your posts and you seem to be a fairly normal human.
However, we both know that too much choice leads to fubar situations.
When my kids were little I used to ask where they wanted to eat. I quickly learned to limit their choices to two.

You can't just let anyone make decisions.

I kept wanting to order a super cab Ranger seat delete option with the idea that I very well might change my mind about the truck, not the rear seat delete. The dealer probably would lose their mind, as if people are usually buying those trucks to utilize the rear seat.

Every Tacoma is an SR5...that's how it's identified on my insurance with VIN.

The added packages makes it the Trim Line...which is also the description after the SR5 name on my insurance policy.

I do remember the Toyota truck commercials back in the 70s.

We had the nominal predecessor, the Datsun 810. They were pretty decent cars with good power and lacked the weight of American sedans so it wasn’t inappropriate.

1983 restoration in progress, major mods so far new 6" lift and 35" Mickey Thompsons.
This is correct, I had an '82 SR5 and it was the "top trim" model. I don't recall the entry level being called anything but a pickup, the mid level was the "Deluxe", which I have an '83 model that I'm restoring currently.

I know when I got a 1979 toyota pickup, I think they offered a sr5 model, but the dealer here had only one of these 4wd trucks on the lot. When I bought it, I think it was called the deluxe model as it was just a 4 speed.

1896 Ford Quadricycle Runabout, First Car Built by Henry Ford.

"Runabout" was used more in the early 1900s in the U.S. The Stutz Bearcat Runabout comes to mind.

I thought sr5 was introduced in the "pickup" truck in late 80 then 81. That was when they first introduced the 5spd in it. I had an 81 sr5. The highest grade at the time I think was the sr5 black package. It had chrome bumpers, AC, bucket seats and a sunroof. That's what I bought anyway.
