SR5 or TRD

    First let me say that I have really enjoyed this site and think it is the best of all the forums. I have been a long time lurker while getting my finances in order to purchase my first taco. I think I am finally getting close to where I can go purchase my 2013 dcsb.

    My question is the TRD package really worth the price over the SR5 package to get the rear locker. I dont really care about the upgraded interior and will be switching out the whole suspension as soon as i can afford too. I will also be getting the towing package no matter what.

    As far as what the vehicle will be used for is mainly a DD that I can go on weekend overland trips and an occational expedition trip to visit various parts of the U.S. I will also use the vehicle to go out to my hunting lease in North West Texas where the terrain gets pretty rough.

    I think the main thing will be the cosmetic differences but are you looking at the TRD Sport or Off-Road version? I have a TRD Sport and I love it and it does everything I need to on and off road even without the rear lockers.

    If you don't need a locker. Then you don't need it.

    Sounds like the SR5 would be better for you and your needs/wants. You can add an aftermarket locker cheaper if you need to.

    it would be the offroad version. The SR5 is probably what I am leaning towards right now. I just wanted to see if anyone was in the same position as I was and went TRD.

    Your not considering the TRD Sport model? I like that version better then the OR model.

    SR5 is best if you want a stock platform to modify on.

    I was in a similar position and when it came down to making the decision I went with the SR5 with the extra value pack, gave me everything i needed and nothing i didn't, But that works best for me, I do a lot of camping, some trails, but nothing serious so i did not really need the rear locker. Everyone in here has different ideas of what they like as far as aesthetics are concerned, and everyone has different needs and uses for their trucks. If i were you i would make a list of what you wont live with out and go from there.....

    All depends on whether you need a rear locker or not. And if you plan on replacing the suspension, wheels and tires then you can really never tell the difference.

    Is there a big difference in the TRD Sport vs the SR5. I thought it was mainly aesthetics.

    The only real difference that I saw is the seats, wheels, and power inverter. They do have the painted body bits, but, other than that, not much of a difference. With that said, I got an SR5 and upgraded it soon afterwards. I saved about $2500 when I bought my truck vs the Sport and put that cash into upgrades. Small lift, wheels and a good bumper go a long way in making it look better. A locker and a re-gear are in order next.

    Trd sport for the hood scoop and color matched exterior! But you would probably like the sr5 like I do.
