Question for those who own either an SR or SR5 (assuming same shocks?). I noticed that the ride quality on my SR5 4x4 DCSB is pretty horrible in the highway, even on new roads that are around my town.

Let me clarify, I know trucks are not smooth riding vehicles, but I came from a 2016 Frontier 4x4 and that thing was actually a lot smoother.

    Here's what I am feeling on mine;

Vibration at highway speeds throughout cab. I can also feel vibrations in the steering wheel.

The rear end feels extremely bumpy. Again I know trucks do this especially with empty beds, but mine feels excessive.

Only changes I've made is gone from the stock SR5 rims and tires and switched over to new TRD OR Rims/Tires that came off a guys truck with only 500 miles on them.

I took truck to discount tire and they made sure to balance all the tires before install. I even retorque all lugs a week after install.

For what it worth, my truck has that rumble feel when slowing down to 20-30 mph.

I'd like to hear input from other SR/SR5 owners and see what you guys think.

Again mine feels like it has excessive vibrations/shaking and rough ride compared to all the trucks I've owned.

Thanks for any feedback. I appreciate it.

Just because the highway is new doesn't mean it's smooth. I would suggest going to the dealership and test drive a different one that's the same package as yours to see if its not just your truck riding rough.

My SR5 is damned smooth and quiet. Zero vibrations.

This particular highway is. When I drive my wife's car I can feel the difference while on the older roads compared to this section of road that's new and freshly paved. I can tell a huge difference. Unfortunately I switched the rims and tires so I doubt my dealership would have an SR5 with TRD OR rims/tires. Thanks

So was it rough before you swapped the tires and wheels, or only after?

Man that's a good question. I had my stock rims and tires for a short time, so I can't remember but I feel it's worse now than before.

Unfortunately my truck has that rumble/vibration also, when I slow down and come to a stop.

Maybe I'm going crazy, but I feel it's getting worse.

The SR, SR5, and Limited all have the same Hitachi shocks.
My SR5 is fine. No weird vibrations at any speed.

I've swapped out my stock SR5 suspension now but I put 15k on it and I thought it rode really nicely. I owned a 3rd gen SR before and it drove the same as my SR5. They had bad dampening offroad on bumps and washboards which was another reason I swapped it all out but on road it drove nice and smoothly, even with my larger, heavy tires.

Zero issues with mine. The only complaint I have it’s a little to soft of a ride planing to put Bilstein 5100 on mostly for handling ( body roll). No off road

Adjust and experiment with tire pressures. There's a good chance DT filled to them to the max. I've had a half and one ton pickup for a company vehicle for years, and the first thing I do to them, is find out how low I can can get the rear tire pressure, before the TPMS light comes on. They ride so much better! Of course now I know the oil change guys, and they know not to fill my tires.
I haven't felt the need or my Tacoma OR, as it rides smooth.

    Just a driver mod.
I would check tire pressure first. My SR5 on stock suspension and tires rides smooth minus the rumble strip vibration at decel

FWIW, my 6 day old TRD Off-Road rides very smoothly; unless the road gets all broken, then all hell breaks loose. I’ve also noticed a slight driveline vibration when braking. I’ll keep an eye on it.

In terms of what to check, you might:
    1. Check tire pressures. I’d keep at recommended by the factory
    2. Check a different highway. See if it’s not that particular road
    3. Check tire balancing. The fact that you feel vibration through the steering suggests wheel balancing may be involved. This normally intensifies with speed
    Good luck!

My SR had a harsh ride for the first 1k miles.
I also took a little psi out of the rear tires since I usually have an empty bed, ended up with 30psi cold to soften up the ride a little.

I put a couple hundred miles on an SR before buying an offroad and it was considerably firmer/harsher than the OR in my opinion.

My SR, with stock tires and rims, rides up to 70 mph on the Intestate like a limo. Smooth. Quiet. Over 70 mph and the ride quality diminishes.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

So I checked the tire pressure and they are all at 33-34 PSI. Does anyone know what Toyota recommends for the TRD OR tires?
I am assuming its different than the stock SR5 tires.

On Thursday I am going back to tire shop to have them check balance again. I can definitely feel vibrations in the steering wheel. Not bad, but its there.

I also have vibrations in my drivers seat when on the highway going above 60 mph.

I also have very slight pedal vibrations during acceleration at certain speeds.

I wish I could remember if my truck felt like this before I switched to the OR rims/tires.

I feel like the stock suspension is horrible. I can feel every little bump on the road.

Again, my cheap frontier had smoother ride.

    Very strange.

I believe it's 30psi cold for both the front & rear tires.

    Thank you.

If anyone with a TRD OR could take a look at theirs and let me know I would appreciate it.

The info is on a decal on your B pillar. Open the drivers side door and look for it. Toyota's recommendations for your particular vehicle's tire combination is right there for you to see.

Edit: My bad. I missed the part where you'd swapped tires/wheels.

Yup I know. But I have an SR5 and I switched to the TRD OR rims/tires. I am assuming the OR tires have different PSI recommendations.
