Get what you want is the biggest thing. If you desire a manual, don’t settle for an auto or if you want a specific combo or color etc. Also, look at all the available perks of each model. Locker is a deal breaker for me.

Don’t settle if you come up with a combo you want. Salesman will try and tell you they can’t get certain configs, when you are paying this much, but make sure you get the truck you want in the configuration you want the first time.

Basically, I suggest getting a manual Off-Road in your favorite color. Lol. You get the manual, rear locker, and a badass truck!

I am dating myself, but I bought a new 1990 Silverado when I graduated. I drove some real hoopties while in college. My best advise is to get what you can afford.
IMO all the models from SR to Pro are cool in their own way.
SR5 here and I'm happy. Seems to be a good balance of function and price (once again IMO).
Anyways congratulations on graduating. I know that getting a degree opened up many possibilities for me.

I got the exact truck I wanted besides 1 option (has the factory 5" steps). I wanted silver, SR5, 2017 leftover, etc. I found it at a local dealer I've worked with in the past and got a killer deal on it. Sometimes I regret not spending the extra on the OR, but I plan on adding the ARB locker, ADS suspension, etc. so it didn't make sense to me to pay extra for things that will get replaced.

I bought an SR and definitely no regrets here. Just a few modifications and it really is all the truck I need. It allowed me to do some basic wrenching and really became something fun to do. No big issues here in my 2016, did get a hood flutter fixed, and have liked the truck very much in every way. Could easily have afforded a higher level of trim, but also like to have a safe financial net.

    That doesn't really exist.

If you take 0% financing from any dealer, it just means you paid too much for the vehicle.

They collect the 'lost interest' in the overall price.

If I would have done that at his age, I would have had a Million plus in the bank. I saw the light late in life and will lucky to have half that..... Folks, these are superior words of wisdom..... I used to make $668 a month in the Air Force sitting on the island of Guam. We were so broke that all we could do was make peanut butter sandwiches and throw Frisbees on the beach. I would give anything to have that back....... My advice to you is find a government Job (one of the few employers left with a defined pension), HOUSE, beater vehicle.......then at my age, pay cash for the truck and drive it to Chile and back!!!

We don't know your situation in detail, so take any financial advice lightly. I'm 26 and was able to afford a new truck while also putting away a good chunk of my paycheck into my 401k and other retirement funds.

Got an SR5 and have been loving it! No regrets!

    65 is fucking old.

If I'm still around at that age I'll be playing golf or laying on a beach drinking & staring at 21 year olds in bikinis.

OP, buy the truck you want. You can prepare for retirement without selling your youth.

Question is public vs private course with used vs custom clubs? What quality of beer, swill or specialty? Staring at your granddaughters friends will just get you laughed at or called names.

Dumping 35 large into a depreciating item is just worthy of due consideration. Investing is one alternative. It's up to him to do the simple math and decide.

Now excuse me. I have to go pack for a couple of weeks in Europe. Including good food, good entertainment and some motorized track chaos. Yes, driving, not watching. :hattip:

Haha exactly. Too many people are afraid of having a little debt. It's a part of life. Mortgage, car payments... it happens. You can get through it. Not necessary to pay a car off with cash right away. Everyone has their preference though.

That’s the ticket right there. ‘91 cruising Europe with Tamara was the juice. When we were in her hometown of Munich, I joined in being naked in the park, lakes, etc. However, I recall walking out naked on her apartment balcony and she yelled to get back inside. I was like “what’s wrong?” She then goes on to tell me the does and dont’s as far as hanging, LOL. Guess there’s a line.

It is a magical place. Have fun.

I'll have to disagree. You can still get a discount on a left over model year and get the 0% financing. I've done it and know other people that have as well.

You miss my point. 0% doesn't really exist, regardless of what the papers say. You're paying for it, just in a different way.

I'll bow out now, and let all the 'debt is good' folks stimulate the economy.

I'm not saying best is good. And I do get your point. But one can still get a couple thousand off sticker and pay zero interest on the loan amount. Thats a win win situation to me.

I bought new as it was just a little more. Plus when I was buying mine they also had an offer for current graduates of like $500 or so off. It sweetened the deal a little more and made it worth it.

As far as the trim, I love my SR5. I couldn't justify the extra price for the features of the OR, but that's just me. I have zero regrets and have loved every minute of driving and owning my truck.
