That's a good plan. My thought is to spend half cash on the DP and go for the long 60-72 months loan option and just start making double payments.

Fortunately, i have enough to buy the Tacoma outright, but I have a problem spending my entire life savings on a truck right away.

Buy the truck you want and enjoy it. If you want the Pro, buy it and enjoy it.

What interest rate is Toyota offering now? When I bought, they were 1-2%. That's essentially free money. I financed 100%. Cash went to Vanguard where it's done VERY well and certainly returned more than 2% (much more).

I thought I wanted an Off Road until I test drove it and the Sport. Then I realized that the Sport was really what I was looking for. Many feel differently, but I much prefer a truck with a tighter suspension. No regrets at all. It drives like a monster!

    This.

I am proud of every misstep and journey I made in my 20's; it built character, gave me perspective, and has made me a better leader, friend, husband and employee. I appreciate my success more, its that much sweeter. Regrets? There's always a few, but comparatively speaking, they're minor. Many in my peer group are now going into their midlife crisis and second marriage phase. I'm 45, content, and in my stride.

To bring it back to the post...if you have the financial means, I say go for it. I love my TRD Sport 4WD auto, but honestly an SR or SR5 2.7 ACSB with a 5 speed, mild lift and some basic camping gear would make me smile just as much, maybe more.

As far as finances go, you could do much worse than buying a versatile vehicle like the Tacoma that holds a resale value that defies logic. Worst case, you dump it in a couple of years and probably recoup most of your cash. OR, you drive it forever because it lasts. Buying a new Tacoma is like being "irresponsibly responsible."

Enjoy and congrats on your degree and career.

I think that finding a good balance between this and good ol' ClearwaterBill's advice would be great. Maybe start out at 65% this and 35% Bill. Then tip the scales more to Bill's advice as life happens.

Any trim you want for automatic. If you want a manual you will have to choose between offroad, sport or pro. On newer 3rd gens.

I love my pro but now I have to figure out how to bolster the front suspension to accommodate a bumper. The rig is becoming is less desert truck and more overlander. Still super dope though! Especially with the MT.
