    Hello All,

I am currently running a stock 2017 SR5 Taco that I've had since 2017. I wanted to go ahead and finally do some work to it.

I picked up some Toyo ATIII 265/75/16 to upgrade from my Firestone Destination 245/75/16

I purchased some used 5k miles Hitachi Shocks & Struts, with a Rough Country leveling kits that came with it. (Used & cheap for $130 total).

Would I expect a rougher ride and more body roll potentially with this switch? Hoping the suspension is an improvement to my current SR5 stock suspension. I live in LA so im not looking to drive off roading much at all. Trucks purpose is still for commute, etc.

Feel free to let me know your thoughts, thanks!

Did you go with the black or blue Hitachi's? The SR/SR5 black Hitachi's are garb (and what you already have) but the blue Hitachi's (off the Sport trim) are tuned to be stiffer for handling. They're the stiffest factory option. Some like it but I don't care for either of the Hitachi options on these trucks. I much prefer the OR Bilstein's on the road - they're the most comfortable cheap option. Depending on mileage on your current set, though, any newer shocks might be a welcome addition.

My NRG's ride pretty decent, and since they're both made by Toyo, I would expect the AT3's to ride nice also.

Why do you need a leveling kit? my 2020 sr5 came perfectly level new. All I did was replace the Firestone all weather tires with a set 256/70 16's a/t ones. Truck is awesome in snow, and muddy roads. It fulfills all my needs.

Picked up the Rough Country Leveling kit just to add some clearance on the front end of the truck (takes care of the nose dive after installation)

I got the blue Hitachi's that came off a TRD Sport, so yes probably would expect a stiffer ride. Current mileage of current shocks are at 83K, so likely this would be a good cost efficient upgrade. At least, I hope this switch out would be an improvement to my current shocks. Probably will look into Bilsteins 5100's eventually since theres a bunch of positive feedback on them.

Should have just bought some 5100 Bilsteins, instead of used Sport shocks. You didn't do yourself an upgrade at all, so expect a stiffer, worn ride. Especially if that Rough Country kit is a spacer lift.

    Good luck buddy.

I've got black Hitachi shocks on my 2020 sr5. They took a long time to settle in, but I have to say they're not all that bad. I'm only at 23k miles and change, but the truck rides nice.

Just put 5100's on mine with stock springs and got it leveled out . It's rides a lot better than stock.
