Two dealers. Both trucks are 2009 4x4 5speed manual 4 cylinders (perfect!)

One is barcelona red (preferable), has trd wheels, bfg a/t ko tires, running boards, sr5 package.

The other is white and only has the convenience package.

The first, they want 23 OTD. The second is ASKING online for 20 OTD because they had hail damage, and I could probably work them down further.

    What would y'all choose?

How bad is the hail damage?

If you don't mind the white, I'd go with that one...

Door number one. Sounds like that is the one you prefer anyway. I would prefer not having the hail damage and I like the color.

Not sure, I haven't been to see it in person, as it's about 3 hrs away. I figure I can play the hail damage option against the other dealer, as I can always say "you know, I'd really prefer to buy your truck, but they're just giving me such a deal on this other one, I really couldn't buy yours unless the price was brought down to xx dollars..."

23k seems high to me, it wasn't a 4x4 but we got a SR5 V6 Dub cab for only $1000 more OTD, it also had tow package, LSD, and TRD wheels on top of the SR5 package. Isn't there a $1500 cash back right now? I would think you could get it for $1,500 under invoice easy. When we got ours there was a $500 cash back so we got it for $500 under invoice.

Well carsdirect reports invoice without the addons as 23,994... so 23 even would be $1000 under invoice.

Part of the problem is the combination i'm looking for actually is relatively rare - 8% of tacomas made. (No, didn't get that info from the salesman ;P) The stick + 4wd + small engine isn't common.

Additionally, I believe what I want qualifies for cash for clunkers mileage-wise, while the v6 does not.

I guess I could look at the v6/6 speed and see what I could do there, but I'd rather not have the 30-40,000 mile $600 bell housing replacement with my clutch that snoboarder told me about. Not to mention the 4cyl / 5 speed combination is old and proven.

Ugh, dealer's now saying they don't want to part with the upgraded red one for that low, they'll give me 24.5 OTD and it's "such a rare model"

Dealer in rome, GA tried to quote me $22k!!! And I mentioned online it was advertised for 20.2, and that they're out of their minds.

Both dealers are giving me the same schpiel. What would you offer for a hail-damaged 2009 4x4 5-speed 4 cylinder with the convenience package (no sr5)?

    wow so a 4x4 v4 cost as much as a 2x4 v6 dub cab?

It's an I4, not a v4. It seems to be about a thousand dollar price difference.

Edit #1: Wait, you said 4x2. Not sure, maybe.
Edit #2: Yes, it appears that way. Who wants 2wd though?
Edit #3: (Says the guy who's got a 5 lug.)
Edit #4: (Although he wants to dump it for 4wd.)

if your gonna use it as an offroad vehicle, take teh hail damage and work them down,

if you plan to replace wheels and tires, then number 1 is gonna be a waste to pay more for things you will replace.,

Yeah, that's good advice. I was trying to figure out what a reasonable price on some minor hail damage would be, as in 5 or so shallowish dents (probably).

even one dent, is enought o talk them down as much as possible, think about what you plant o do with the vehicle, plus maybe the dents wont show so much on the white, where are the dents? the roof, hood, doors, if they are on the roof, no big deal, not many people can even see the roof, i can barely and i am 6 ft tall. plus if you life it, no big deal at all, but def go with the one you will be happier with. i go t a silver because price was right, blue i had to wait and wouldnhave paid more. so i"settled" for silver but i dotn really call it settling

Only two things would bug me about the hail damage one: Not a fan of white, would prefer another any other color but speedway blue, but not a big deal.

Also, no sr5 = no backup camera + a few other things. That backup camera is useful as hell. Although apparently the camera is still in every tailgate, they just don't wire it to the mirror? I could probably get a mirror and install that myself.

if you are handy, you can add those parts at much less than what they charge, and it is custom, but thats if you like modding yourself. i know somepeople prefer to pay and have it done...i would by the sounds of it, go for the red, and talk it down as much as you can, i think you prefer that make better and your happiness is what amtter most

Well the red one, dealer is now saying they can't get it below 24.5 OTD and they have another truck coming in that they "don't know the options on yet" (BS?) but can call me back about when it comes in.

I still just think $20k for a truck where MSRP is 24 and invoice is 22 when it has hail damage is too much, and the guy didn't seem willing to budge on it.

These dealers are all on crystal meth, they think just because there aren't many of these trucks they'll get a premium out of me... news flash, there aren't many because nobody wants them, they want auto or v6 or no 4x4!!!!!!ONEONEONEONE :anger off: It's also a 2009 in AUGUST of 2009! What are they thinking, if i'm going to pay full freight i'll wait for a 2010. *sigh*

Good point. Maybe whatever truck the dealer for the red one comes back with won't have the extra crap on it and they'll be talking my language. I'm thinking if they have sr5 + the rest for 23 OTD i'll take it (and then go in there and get the $1000 cash back for college grads at the last minute to make it 22k)
