My SRS airbag light comes on once in a while and the head unit gives me a warning, turning the truck off and re-starting it resolves the issue sometimes.

What are some things to look at before taking it to the dealer?

need to read the specific code being generated to get an idea of where to look first. that error message is just generic-- it could be anything at all, with any part, module, or wiring to the full airbag system.

but the first three places to look are
    1. anywhere that the truck was modded, anywhere near any wiring that could be related to the airbag system.
    2. the clockspring. it's one of the few parts of the system that's subject to constant movement
    3. underseat airbag/seatbelt wiring. it's the second part that is most easily subject to physical damage from someone moving the seat, or jamming things underneath the seat improperly.

I have no way to read codes besides the dealership.

I will start looking under the seat.

Any auto parts store will read code for free.

Post up codes if you get them. My airbag light was on constantly, codes B1000 and B1610 were pulled by the dealer. They did a pin test on wiring and found an open wire in the harness going to the engine bay. That was replaced. Problem solved.

You may want to do a TW search as I have heard of other members having a similar issue. Either way, a trip to the dealer may be necessary.

Your situation may be different, just sharing my experience.

There's thousands of independent auto shops that work for cheaper than dealer rates that can perform the same tasks without the corporate overhead. Many dealers are also moving to 'parts changers' where they insist on replacing wiring in its entirety instead of repairing a singular connection, where many independent shops will be more willing to change one or two connectors, which can save many thousands in labor and parts costs.

And most auto parts stores also read codes for free.

I went to two parts stores, neither could get a code to show
