I want to tow my 240z from san jose to sac (127 miles ) with the srunner. Trailer and 240z it will be a little under 5k lbs. For some reason the 2001 srunner is only listed at 3500 the same as the smaller short wheel base 4 cycl tacoma. Which is strange since the prerunner which is the same size and engine is listed at 5k.

Any reason the srunner can't tow 5k lbs 127 miles even though the same size prerunner with the same engine and same wheel base can ? I wonder if Toyota just made an error on the specs.

    It's not power, it's suspension/tires.

Is the 240 not able to be driven?

The classic 240z needs a few things to get running and I moved all my tools to sac. I would just feel better about towing it assuming my srunner would be safe to do it.

your rear suspension would probably be done after the trip. Look at the ford raptor. the first gen had less towing capacity than my V6 Tacoma, but the same engine and transmission in a standard f150 was rated at almost double. It's all about that suspension.

    oh that's a thought.. hmmm :/

Sounds like even if I can tow the 240z it would be a lot of wear on the srunner. I am not going to use the srunner then.
