Compare the seats. I like the TRD seats. The Sport suspension rides well. Only a little firmer than the standard. But, I have an '11 with the soft 3-leaf. The seats and appearance got me. Good luck.

What year is your truck? My 13 SR5 already came with the 4-leaf pack from the factory.

Assuming the OP is looking to buy new, there isn't a TSB for the 12+ models. The Sports and SR5s already come with a 4 leaf pack. The ORs come with a 3 leaf, but the TSB didn't apply the last time I checked.

I'm looking to buy a 2013 V6 AT double cab short bed 2WD with factory tow package and either TRD Sport (off OR?) or SR5 w/ Alloys.

    2013 V6 4x2 AT DC SB $25,455 (MSRP)
    Tow $650
    SR5 $1,630
    SR5 Alloy Wheel Upgrade $400
    TRD Sport $3,200
    TRD OR $3,345

Some of my prices may be off as I'm using some 2012 data I collected a while back. Below is a table comparing the SR5 and TRD Sport pack. I've highlighted what I consider to be potentially substantive differences. The other stuff is either identical between the packs or cosmetics.

I haven't driven the trucks back to back so I can't comment on the differences in ride.

just sitting in the seats - my butt didn't detect much difference. Sport has a nicer fabric may have been a little firmer...?

I hate to be the guy to say it , but if you are going DCSB , and don't care about colour matched trim and don't want the scoop but like the TRD seats , why aren't you buying a TRD Offroad ?

Maybe I read it wrong or just missed it but for you guys with a 2009-2011 SR-5 this is what was in the tsb (please correct me if I'm wrong):

    NOTE
The 2009 – 2011 model year non-TRD Option Package Truck is already equipped with updated
shock absorbers and bump stops. Do NOT replace the shock absorbers or bump stops.

    Being cheap :notsure:

Really though, what's $1,700 (using op's math in comp chart) on a ~$30k truck? Buy what you really want, spend the extra on the goodies now, and be happy later...

No one made mention of the smaller tires on the sr5 that you have highlighted on your comparison

I'm open to that one too. My expected usage is heavily biased towards driving on paved roads (almost exclusively). Ignoring the SR5 for the moment by understanding was the Sport was better suited for 'handling' on roads with less body lean. The OR comes with a locker which I have no particular need for. Again for street driving and hitting the occasional gravel or rain on pavement - I'm thinking I would prefer the LSD.

I'm open to anybody making a case for the TRD OR.

I'm not 'anti scoop' - I just don't give it any 'value' either. If I could get a $-500 credit for a TRD Sport w/ standard hood - that would be great but not gonna happen. So I ignore it and look at those things that I value and compare that to the extra $ for the pack.

Has anyone broken down the 2013 suspension components? Reading this thread and others it sounds like all three packs get you 4-leaf springs now? The same springs? Different shocks? Possibly different sway bars?

Wikipedia mentions sport having linear springs and OR using progressive springs. Smaller sway bars on OR and larger ones on Sport.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Tacoma#TRD_Packages

    Something like this (my guesses)

    SR5
    Springs: 3-leaf? 4-leaf?
    Shocks: Tokico
    Bars: ?

    Sport:
    Springs: 4-leaf (different?)
    Shocks: Bilstein
    Bars: Thicker

    OR
    Springs: 4-leaf (softer?)
    Shocks: ?
    Bars: Smaller

All Sport models come with the scoop , there is no mechanical LSD in the Sport or any other new model , they are all the same except the Offroad adds the locker

SR5 and Sport are 4 leaf , Offroad is 3

Sport and SR5 get the 4 pack, OR still comes with 3. Sport and OR both come with Bilstein shocks, and you are correct on the coils.

If you don't go offroad enough to justify the locker and don't care about the scoop, handles, mirrors, and upgraded seats I'd go with an SR5 and upgrade the shocks to Bilstein 5100s for 300ish dollars(they are much better than the Bilsteins that come on the TRD models)

People seem to say SR5 seats are uncomfortable in comparison to TRD seats.

Either way you should just go to a dealership and take a test drive in both an SR5 and TRD (Sport or OR) and then begin to make a decision.

Most people say get SR5 if the buyer/OP is interested in upgrading it to "better than stock" condition for offroad purposes. Otherwise, if you just want the whole shibang right off the lot just go for one of the TRD packages.

If you think long term about it getting your ideal desire is more important than saving relatively little $, plus when you look to sell someday you might get the difference back & then some.
