I have a 2000 extended cab prerunner. I don't have any lift on the truck but I do have 31s on the tires. If I'm going on a curve faster than 30 miles an hour and I hit a bump or a dip I almost lose control of the steering To the point where it's hard to keep it from changing lanes into oncoming traffic. What would be the best solution to fix this? Replace it my stabilizer bar? Adding an aftermarket sway bar or some type of additional steering control? You're collective wisdom please.

    Welcome to TW!

How many miles on your PreRunner?

What's the condition of your current sway bar bushings?

What type and age of shocks are you running?

How old are are the tie rods and ball joints and the rest of the suspension?

I have an EX cab Prerunner with 30.1 diameter tires and it handles great on curves and bumpy surfaces.

I've never felt like I would lose control even at much higher speeds than legally advised for a given road condition.

Have you looked under the rig to examine your front end suspension components? Maybe you broke a sway bar end link. Do a through examination and then let us know what you find.

I don’t even run a swaybar, but I do have higher end shocks.

Is this something that has always happened? Or is this new?

As the other dudes said, would be good to know how old your shocks and other components are, and definitely inspect the suspension and steering components.

But also keep in mind this is a pickup truck, it’s not going to handle like a car no matter what you do to it. Granted it shouldn’t be loosing control, but trucks definitely handle differently than cars, so when people drive them like cars you can get into trouble.

OP - The symtoms you describe are exactly the symptoms I had. I found out that one of the end links had broken. Couldn't see it until I lifted the affected wheel. Replaced the end link and - problem fixed!

Unfortunately I had the same situation the following year with the other end link.

Also, make sure the torque on the sway bar end links is what the factory specifies. It will really compress the rubber bushings, but anything less will result in too much sway. AMHIK ;)
