I apologize in advance if this has been discussed a million times already.
The shifter on my standard tranny in my 07 Taco has huge amounts of play. It's not the bushing at the very bottom of the shaft we all know about it. There are 2 sections of shaft that go down into the shifter assembly. The one you hold fits over a shorter one that actually goes into the assembly. That connection is down inside the boot. The connection between the 2 shafts is the issue. Not sure why they got loose or how they actually stay connected. I suspect some damage may have occurred while the whole tranny was being removed for a clutch replacement. Is there a way to firm up that connection again or should I just try to find a shaft replacement?
    Thanks for any feedback.

Buy a TRD Quickshift kit and replace that old stick! I just did mine and I LOVE it. Here is the install video I made:

I had the same problem when I did my trans swap. The shifter was broken. I changed to the TRD quick shifter and it came with a full new shifter assembly. All is good now.

That loose connection you are referring about, is the inner stock rubber isolator is worn out. the upper shifter tube is filled with a rubber compound and the bottom part it is put into place before the compound sets. exactly how Toyota does it, I don't know - but you get the gist. it is done for noise and vibration reduction coming from the transmission. This is a good idea in theory, horrible for long term practical use.

I have the same problem more or less, mine rattles as I drive and drives me crazy. I will be swapping it out for the TRD short shifter sometimes in the future soon

I love the bottle of hand sanitizer. That’s where I put mine as well. COVID. Ugh.

Guys, Thank you for the feedback. I will do the TRD quick shifter. RedTaco68, thank you for the video. Just what I needed. And agreed about the TRD HSBH "Hand Sanitizer Bottle Holder". Incredible foresight on the part of the TRD design team. Cheers.

Are those kits a Toyota factory part. Does anyone else make a kit?

The TRD short shifter ? Yes it is a toyota part. But apparently it is by model. My 4wd was a different part number from the 2wd

Would be considered an anti-theft device if it didn't have the shift pattern on it...lol

It looks like I'll get the best price at my local Toyota dealer but I have to pay in advance with no returns because they have to order it. Is this the correct part number? PTR04-35052. And is that specifically correct for my '07 Taco TRD Access Cab 6 Speed?
Just making sure before I pull the trigger.
    Thanks guys.

Your dealer should (and better be able to) confirm the correct part number, if you're ordering from them.
