Standard tranny. No 5th gear. No reverse.

That's what I thought, but could that still be the issue if it looks like the shifter is moving cables just fine, but there is very little movement on the shifter lever on the tranny.
also when in gear 1-4 the shifter can move around like it's in neutral, but it's stays in gear.

 

the shifter bushing Could be pretty wore out if it flops around that much. I know my dad said it was a cheap part and only took about 30 mins to replace, I'd try that first.
