Im kind of a stickler for the law . And its not like Im going to be racing... that much... :p

Besides, according to the latest global warming report from leading Chipotle scientists, my truck already kills 10 avocados per mile. God knows what will happen if I run with no cats  I want my kids to be able to enjoy Chipotle guacamole when they grow up...

If I do the cutout, it wouldnt matter. Not planning to boost everywhere I go but if I need it, a switch would be mighty handy.

well..doesn't work quiet like that..you'd still have boost everywhere you went haha but fast spool and louder would be a fun button to have.

that said, i remember you saying the wastegate is divorced. If you want it quiet ever, cut out or no cut out. Get that plumbed back into the exhaust. Otherwise any time your in boost.

    BBBBRAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

    like..ridiculous loud. haha

Its always spinning, but not always in "boost." Its a big damn turbo and I dont expect positive boost until ~3k RPM's if even that... Def plan to rout the waste gate back to the exhaust. Again, loud and obnoxious cars/trucks tend to see more blue lights than not around here... BBRRRAAAPPPPPPP = WEEUU WEEEUU WEEEUU (my interpretation of a cop siren :p)

its a 60-1 right? you'll have positive boost before then. just not like full boost.

I dont know what a 60-1 is. Its basically a china made GT35 with smaller turbine wheel:

    - 4" Air Inlet
    - 2.5" Compressed Air Outlet
    - Standard T4 Turbine Housing Flange
    - 3" Vband Exhaust Outlet
    - 6-25 PSI Working Pressure
    - .70 A/R Compressor
    - .68 A/R Turbine
    - 61.3 /82 mm Compressor Wheel
    - 62 /67.8 mm Turbine Wheel

There was another user on CustomTacos that said he ran a smaller turbo (T3/T4 type) that was giving positive boost at about 2k RPMs... :notsure:

I would certainly like to see boost at that RPM :D and when this turbo blows, Ill probably go a size smaller. We'll see where boost comes on one of these days...

Couple of thoughts on cut out & cats.

I had a MkIV R32 and it had a vacuum actuated bypass/cutout that came in above a certain spead/RPM...sounded like Chewbaka. It was sick and I modded it to be switchable. You will appreciate stealth mode far more than you think.

The answer to the cat/no cat/shitty flow is a good high flow cat from somebody like magnaflow. Stainless and can even get with 02 bung in it. Sure its no straight pipe but far superior to the standard style and still legal.

Its too bad the CX kit only comes with a T4 flange and such a large turbo. A T3/T4 or even a T25 flange would be awesome. I'd sacrifice top end for full boost at 2K RPM.

Im still on the ropes on the exhaust. It will be a while before I have to cross that bridge so Ill do my do diligence and take my time.

I believe it fits a T3 as well

you'll see boost then. Full boost will be around 3k though yes. 2.8k maybe.

a 50mm would be way fast and better for our power band IMO. more streetable anyways.

easy to upgrade turbos though. Just gotta tune it a bit different for the new power band.

yes it should fit T3s. A T3 would be faster too.

No matter what..its gonna be fun haha

T3 would be nice but maybe a bit too small. I would spool like a bitch though... Im thinking a nice T3/T4 when this one gives out.

go for a holset hx35 with a smaller B.E.P. exhaust side housing and you spool up real quick and be able to hold it! that's the route i was going to go on my 3.4l but now that i have a landcruiser im thinking i prolly don't need the smaller exhaust side with the additional displacement!

Turbo with supporting mods and tranny to hold power.
IIRC..... With the TO4E60 and .58a/r T4 on mine boost started around 1700rpm and full boost in the mid to late 2k's. This was a journal bearing turbo. Little smaller than turbo you are using but not by much.
You should start seeing boost by 2k and full boost around 3k with that turbo.....
Can't wait till you start seeing boost either!

    I hope you're right.

Another question: currently running Penziol Synthetic Ultra 5w-30. Should I go a bit heavier with the turbo?

Dude you ain't kidding about the smaller the better for turbos on the 3.4. Especially with a manni tranny. I find myself driving at a gear that puts the rpms at at least 3k so that if I need to merge or speed up in an instant I'll have some boost to work with :/.
Probably not doing my wallet any good

    Should be a big issue.

But you might think about adding an external oil cooler and running an extra half a quart if oil or full quart depending.

Yea your also rear mounted. That's like 500rpm difference in turbo lag right there.

Yeah I know that's why I'm glad I have the size I do and not any bigger. And did you mean to say "shouldn't be an issue. But..."?
