Yes, major PITA. I love driving manual trans and was very upset the 4-doors only had autos. However, the first time taking it off-road I fell in love. Autos are so easy!

Well if you have a leak like this, not very helpful in detecting where it is:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixQQxde_xeQ

But generally, you just rev the engine and look for smoke coming out of your exhaust. Remember, at idle, generally your exhaust is sucking air in.

Update: Got the other side of the crossover done. Now, the female v-band ends aren't super bad, generally they want to sit flush. The issue with the crossover is its off just a bit and for one side to sit flush, the other side is slightly off. Additionally, when fitting it, it has to be perfectly rotated or one side will be tweaked. I got it as good as I can by taking it slowly and tightening it evenly on both sides. Unfortunately, it wasn't good enough... The stove top adhesive should fill the gaps and seal it good though.

At idle the engine is sucking exhaust in? What kind of sense does that make!?

Generally at idle, your exhaust is a slight vacuum which is why my AFR's are going screwy at idle and good at load. Its sucking air in and offsetting the AFR readings :notsure:

Not yet, exhaust leak at the crossover pipe. Ill test it again tonight/tomorrow to see if today's efforts yielded any improvements.

That can be the case sometimes but not always. It's kinda like a toilet Gray. When you have enough of something traveling through a channel, the momentum of it keeps it going straight and that creates vacuum if the hole (or leak) doesn't interfere with the main path

I get that but that doesn't explain why you have flow going backwards at idle

No it doesn't go backwards... he meant the leak hole sucking in air and pulling it out of the tail pipe because of the vacuum

    Backwards flow??
This ^ Go back to high school physics :p

On the ships we use S-type eductors to dewater flooded spaces. Same principle.

Oh, and truck running MUCH better. Going to see how it runs over the next day or so then on to checking the AEM FIC and reconnecting. Hopefully it will be on the dyno by next January....

One more puzzle piece. Also noticed some smoke coming out of the cheap waste gate. Got a 38mm OBX that Ill hopefully install this weekend. I was always planning on a Tial down the road but heard OBX was very good and much cheaper.

Tial makes a nice waste gate, I've installed several of the larger ones on a few 1JZ motors.

OBX ?!?!? That is a name I haven't seen in a long while, surprised their cheap asses are still around, though for the budget builder they didn't have bad products so long as you knew you'd be replacing the item down the road.
