So I was wondering what this curious little thing was. It came with my timing belt kit and had a pin in it. So naturally I pull the pin out...

and release the timing belt tensioner...

I probably wouldn't last long in the Army.

It isnt designed as an hp mod. That is an intrinsic side effect. Due to smoothing out harmonic vibrations. Which is what the main intention is for. Protecting the engine.

No, sat dumbfounded as the plunger popped out and thought "that probably wasn't too smart"

This afternoon I found out just why that wasn't too smart... Going to visit a good friend's shop and get it pressed back in. Not the first time I've relied on his help for my dumbfuckups. He'll enjoy this story I think.

Work was done today, thanks to Clint, Ron, and Steve. Got the diff out and dropped the pan to get the oil pump out. Just need to remove the crankshaft timing pulley...

Sorry, bro and thanks a ton for your help. I was hoping the day would have been easier but I really don't feel good about that oil pump. Good thing too because the strainer was clogged up a bit...

Oil pump was a bitch to get off. The Repair Manual didn't reference this at all, but there is a bracket that overlaps the oil pump and shares a single long bolt. To get the pump out, the entire bracket has to come off. Of course to get it off, first the AC compressor has to come off.

So got everything off, just ordered all the gaskets Ill need to put it all back together, and now just need get some new oil feed and return lines, weld a bung into my old oil pan, and put everything back together.

Make sure you sandblast the front before you put it back together. You want that surface to be rust free!:D

    Good idea bro!

Hey, while you're here, I need some advice on my crankshaft; its covered with oil :(! You know a good oil solvent, preferably an aerosol so I can clean it up a bit? Maybe shoot some dish soap up there and power wash it?

Spent the day cleaning up some of the wiring and removing the loom. Replaced the old alternator connector with a all weather connector. Put a female end on the new alternator and going to put one on the old alternator in the inevitable case of me fucking this up and I have to go back to stock very quickly.
