Got this cap after reading others here recommending it for the 2nd gens. The one i got a week ago was made in Mexico on 4/1/2022. With the cap locked if you spin it (you'll hear clicks) counter clockwise about 10 times the cap falls off. What a piece of garbage. :annoyed:The old reviews mentioned this happening years ago and stated the problem got resolved... apparently not.

I have a Gates locking cap that did that in the first few months. At some point, it stopped doing that. It now engages properly and will only open with the key. Maybe yours will do the same. Besides, the visual will deter most thieves.

I may be wrong but I think that's the same part number for 3rd Gens. If so, you may have received a counterfeit cap. Yes....there are tons of them out there. There are some specific things to look for to identify the bogus caps.

There should be an embossed Stant logo "S" on the handle itself.

The information about the cap should be embossed, not printed.

The key seems to have a plastic grippy part where the authentics are all metal.

Any of those things look familiar?

Yep... no "S", not embossed, and plastic on key! It's going back to O’Reilly Auto Parts.

    Thank you for this!

Now we know why some have no problems, some do.

Can anyone share a picture of the real Stant 10509 and where to purchase it?

No surprise at all to have bad parts right out of the box these days, I just had 2 Standard brand relays in a row bad right out of the box.
Quality control on stuff is nonexistent in today's parts market even on alot of name brand stuff.

Here's the LEGIT cap that, ironically, I bought at O'Reillys. My bad one was an Amazon buy. When you go back to O'Reillys, have them check multiple boxes. There have been numerous threads here on subject and I have participated in many of them but it seems as though my findings, as well as others, have come up with those criteria I mentioned. For us 3rd Gen guys, it was a Check Engine code that was constantly being squawked with the bad cap, not simply falling apart. Many of us found O'Reillys the place to get a legit cap....until you came along!

BTW....I may have misled you on the printed verbiage on the cap. It may be the other way around, I think my bad cap had shitty embossing on the warnings because as you can see, the print is on the good cap shown here. One think for sure, though...my bad cap as well as other's, did NOT have the embossed "S" in the handle so I'd at least look for that!
