I just installed a driveshaft disconnect so I can flat tow the Taco. It all checked out ok and worked fine. I then turned off the truck and went to install the steering wheel fuse bypass switch under the dash. I removed the correct fuse, inserted the bypass adapter then started to look for a place to mount the switch under the dash. As I was moving the switch around I bumped it on a metal bracket and it sparked. I stopped there and checked the inline fuse, all was good. I tried to start the truck but got no response from the start button. I removed the swith and reinstalled the good fuse and tried again but still no response. I checked every fuse in that panel and the ones I could check under the hood. All fuses are good. The remote also will now not lock/unlock the doors. The door ajar light and hood open light will come on and headlights and horn work but nothing else seems to have power. The truck is in park but the steering wheel is unlocked. I disconnected the battery and let it set for a bit, hoping it would reset but it hasn’t. Has anyone had experience in this area.

How are you checking the fuses? A visual inspection is not sufficient. You will want to continuity test them. They may look good but are not...

I pulled them out one by one to check them.

Looks like you have fried either wires or BCM (Body Control Module).

    Maybe ECU... not sure.

That’s what I’m thinking. The unlock buttons on the door do not work either. I tried putting the remote up to the button but that didnt work either. You would think it would have blown the fuse before doing any further damage.

Did you check the pulled fuses with a meter to make sure they have continuity? As stated above, looking at the fuses is not enough.

It may not be the issue but always start with the cheapest and easiest first. Good luck!

Resolved! It was a 50a fuse under the hood! Now the steering lock bypass is installed (with the battery disconnected) and everything is working properly.
