Our 2015 BMW 328 has it, BUT it remembers the drivers setting, so never is on when I drive it. Our 2019 GTI has it, BUT doesn't remember, so just turn it off. Our 2021 Taco OR doesn't have it at all, and blessed :D

Start - stop. I'm considering the override.

I agree, I think it’s such useless feature. You will save maybe 10-15$ in gas a year? I’m sure the battery and the starter won’t last as long as a vehicle without this crap.

    A few.
I noticed on some of the new Ford F 150's there is a Start/Stop Delete option listed on the window sticker at a cost of $50. Im assuming it gets removed as an option now.

Don't have it on any of my vehicles and don't care for the start/stop feature at all. Seems like a fuel saving gimmick and a good way to wear out your starter/ battery faster.

And in the SouthWest, where temps hit 118 easily, the wear-and-tear on your engine isn't a good thing. Fluids need to 'move-around' ...

    Key Fobs... thank you no.
    Start Stop... thank you no.

Either of those 2 items would provoke me to turn around and walk.

Seeing that my Tacoma is the end-of-the-line for my car buying days I won't have to worry about it.

It just doesnt work well with gas-only applications imo. I've had hybrids with it and the process is a bit more seamless since the electric motor can coast you along a little bit while the engine starts up again. I guess its hard to re-wire our brains to account for the delay when hitting the accelerator.

Have a '22 Sport and it doesn't have this function. Although I must be in the minority because I haven't minded it when I have had it on rental cars and such. They typically trigger off of removing your foot from the brake so when I've had it, so I can fairly quickly adapt to anticipating when I need to remove my foot from the brake to get a reasonable start. I drive like a grandpa though, lol. It takes a bit of getting used to, but I wouldn't object to it being included from an emissions-reduction point of view. Certainly, gas savings alone aren't going to make it worthwhile.

Found this thread because I was interested to know if the newer 3rd gen Tacoma's have this feature. My 2020 Palisade does (activated by pressing the brake pedal harder at a stop) and I do quite like it when driving around town.

Especially with gas prices the way they are now... Faxk... anyone who hated it on their other vehicles, have you changed your mind?

Wouldn't be surprised if they put it on the 2023 model year.

My 2013 Sport will continue to serve me well until the 4th gen comes out and an upgrade is considered :)

I always thought it was stupid how the auto manufacturers put auto stop, cylinder deactivation, and turbo chargers to save pennies on fuel and several thousand to repair when they go bad…. And they will go bad

Gas Prices are king and can make or break a life in the political world.
    Stupid?... yes.
    Crazy?... yes. ... but it's a fact.

You can always leave it in the “off position”
Three benefits listed, reduced emissions, a quieter cabin and SAVE gas.
Carburetor days, you eat more gas when turning off and back on.
Fuel injection today save money by turning off and on.

Toyota has a list if the button is push in Start/stop when it will not work , leave max A/C on, high altitudes, steering wheel is turn, stop n go traffic, etc (9) total.

Looks like Toyota offer this as a gas saver?

These systems always seemed bad to me. When I was in A&P school one of the first things we learned is that engine are under the most stress and wear during start-up, before oil pressure has risen. On most cars you can get in them and drive 100 miles and they wear less going that far then they did in the 5 seconds of start-up. Seems like a good way to sell starters and get premature bearing wear. The only way it would be good is if the oil pump was electric and never stopped making pressure, but then you loose the reliability of a mechanical oil pump. Maybe an electric auxiliary oil pump would be best? But as far as I know that's not part of any start stop system.

Start-Stop is probably a game manufacturers play with the government to get a certain EPA / MPG rating. Doesn’t necessarily mean it is what most consumers want.

There also was a time when catalytic converters we’re not required. Back then, battery saws were not common either.

Do electric vehicles turn off at stops?

Like riding a bike, the minute you stop, takes extra effort to get going again. Why stop?

Highly unlikely they would add it to the 2023 Tacoma, wouldn't really make any sense to add complexity to the final model year of the 3rd Generation.

don't have it on my 22 tacoma, but i had it on previous Subaru and didn't like it but after a while i got used to turning off every time, just like putting on seatbelt....a routine......if it shuts off you can push button and eng will start and turn off mode until next start up.......and some company makes a plug in module for vehicles that keeps it off, just puts memory on the switch some how
