Toyota start stop is one of the least invasive of the current vehicles available.

It needs a lot of criteria before it happens. I hear F150's in traffic all the time and it would drive me nuts.

    Rav4s and Highlanders? Rarely.

Tundras? Haven't had one shut off on me yet. Would need to drive it way further.

I had a loaner Rav4 a few months back, it actually never even activated during normal driving but did kick in at a stop sign on a hill. Kinda scared me at first and then realized it happened from pressing harder on the brake pedal.

Oh , Every time you drive ? It is always ON? Now that could be annoying! If you step on the gas, does it start up again?

Toyota said it stays on if you are on a hill? Does this means when the engine cut off we lose the the brakes and steering at other times? Toyota says the A/C will turn off unless at Max A/C. There goes the hot and cold feelings. I get “hot” when I stop, I get “cold” when I go….”oh what a feeling” !

This feature should not be automatic every time you are driving?

    A few.
All the new F150s have it deleted now with a $50.00 credit. Didnt see anything about being govt mandated. Why dont all new vehicles have it if thats the case?

I think we need to look at the bigger picture here, with the start/ stop button. As individuals it can be annoying.
On Toyota web site the first thing on the list of benefits of the start/stop, REDUCE EMISSIONS! Saving gas was 3rd.
With the millions of cars/trucks on the roads, when million of those engines are turn off , it benefits us all.

Climate change is here, maybe the start/stop may play a role, in reducing some of it.

My last several F-150's had it and I just had it deactivated with a tune. I find it to be annoying and a battery killer. I prefer my AC to be running when I'm stopped and its 150 degrees outside (Florida). I was pleased my 22 TRDOF didn't have it. My wife's 2021 Honda CRV has it but she just drives it in sport mode which deactivates it.

The volcano you live near puts out more emissions in one day than every car in your state does in a year lol.

I imagine implementation is important. The first one with start stop I drove was a VW golf in France. Paris traffic is on par with LA so there I am sitting on the inner ring road, stop for traffic, pop the car in neutral let the clutch out. The car shut off within 5 seconds. Thought I broke something. Was attempting to restart when I pushed the clutch in and it fired up.

VWs was pretty good in that car as the engine was running by the time the clutch hit the floor.

A non issue. You have a button to turn it off, or better yet use your brake to control it. If you know where the point is in the brake travel where it doesn't turn off you can simply not smash the pedal to the floor at the light and it won't active start stop.

Best implementation of this system is in vehicles that have the 48V Belt generator unit that does the start stop instead of traditional starter. Smooth as butter. Wranglers/Rams have it and I think some MB and Audis too. Probably a few more.

I dont like it on my ford because of the air conditioning turning off and getting funky smells right away.... Other than that, I would be fine with it.

stop start on our rubicon is great. we have the turbo 4 cyl etorque one, not the stupid ESS boat anchor V6. AC on max turns it off as well for the ones complaining about that. it doesn't come on at stop signs and it wont turn off at red lights until you've been stopped for a sec.

the system is smarter than 90% of the people in this thread lulz.

Don't even know what the difference on fuel consumption would be, most engines run very rich during and just after start up, definitely more then a started engine at idle. Would need to see some math on how long a stop would need to be to be efficient. Stopping for 1 second at a quick light would definitely be less efficient then an engine at idle.

They only run rich at start up if the engine is cold.

Not true, they certainly run less rich on a hot start then a cold one, but it is still very rich compared to the idle cycle. Like I said would need to see some math on how long a stop would need to be to be efficient.
