two things that stop me...1 its only a 125A 110v welder which is fine for welding 3/16 as long as you use flux core. pre-heating helps too...

reason number two its pretty windy out and gas shielding would not be ideal...

ill be buying a 180A 220V welder soon...

gotcha, There's nothing wrong with using flux core, It will be plenty strong.

Looks good man. I made mine as well. I used 4 supports on my double cab short bed and I think it is plenty strong. I used a 110V welder with flux core also. Your welds look better than mine did. I'm a self taught welder with engineering background as well. I've dropped it on a few rocks pretty hard and haven't had any issues. I got lucky and had access to a nice tubing bender so I used round .120 wall hrew tube. Props for nutting up and going for it.

if that pos didn't break halfway through construction maybe. Just do it right and spend the money on a miller or hobart.

Nice job, what a coincidence I am building a set very similar to yours right now. I am using 083 wall 2 x 2 square tube that cost me $80 (40 ft). Mine have a kick out in the back but the front is done the same as yours. Hard to tell from the pic but did you mount them level or angled up? Your welds look much better than mine!!:p

mine are level. i also decided to do 4 support mounts.

i was debating on kick outs but decided against it. i dont want anything sticking out more than the wheelbase. ive done some really narrow trails and dont want to get hung up if i dont have to...

I wasnt sure about the kick outs but decided to go with them in the rear. I can't wait until some idiot swings his door open in a parking lot and hits the square edge of my slider with his car door. It might ease the pain from the big dent some $#@! left on the side of my wifes shiny black Lexus.
