Is this the first set of sliders you've ever built? If so, looks like you did your research and did things right the first time. I saw your post in the other thread about coming down hard on them and they stayed stout with no damage. Nice job!

    yep first set...

i originally tested by jacking the whole side of the truck up with them then putting a jack stand about 6" down. knocked the jack out and it free fell 6" onto the stand and didnt budge...

and they only cost me about $150 and a weekend to make :D

i self taught.... bought my welder like 2 months ago lol

watched some vids online. studied art of a strong weld. "penetration is key"

tried out a bunch of small stuff and beat the shit out of it. early stuff broke but as i got better, the penetration was there, welds looked nicer and the metal would break not the weld.... then i made my sliders

looks great, time to fab up a bumper. the rear is easier to start with. when you do welds that your going to grind off with that welder if you hold it at a sharp angle to the steel (back into your weld) you will get great strength and it wont stand up so high on the steel making it easier to grind smooth, this is something i had an older guy show me and it has worked great for me. PASSING along the info makes the world go round.

    thanks man!

I think i did that by accident. i was welding the sliders and couldnt get the angle i wantet. i had to kinda weld blind holding the tip at a steep angle and the weld came out strong with very little height. it was a convex fillet but it only stuck out maybe 1/16"

I plan on making a square tube bumper. I kind of like the AP Hybrid bumper but think itd look cool out of square tube to match the sliders

One mistake i made on the sliders is the passenger one is about 1/8" higher than the drivers.... not a big deal but the rubber mounted cab moves enough on really rough shit to smack the slider (especially now with Eload tires. its only on the rear corner of the cab so i think i will just grind the pinch weld under the cab to clear it...

take a big hammer to that pinch weld, it leaves all the material and it leaves the stock paint or underliner. good luck,
