My dealer takes walk around pictures of the vehicle before they even ask what you're there for.

I am supposed to take delivery of my 2021 TRD OR on 12/7-12/14. Reading this thread has been a sobering experience, as to what can happen to a person’s brand new rig. Best of luck on getting the collateral damage resolved.

Somewhere along the line he mentioned that they determined it was a broken valve spring or springs. I think only one, but I'm not sure. Which would make sense if they took the head off. Still doesn't explain how the managed to scratch the hood.

He talked about valve spring issues several times, but never confirmed that was the issue.

Of course we could look at the topic where it says cylinder number 5 broken valve spring. That might give us an idea.

I think people are wondering why the valve spring broke. It would be interesting to know if it was a defective part, or some other cause.

I think the OP self diagnosed it because he is a legit certified Internet Master Tech. Those guys are amazing. They can pretty much google anything. Undoubtedly he will google "How do I tell them that they wouldn't give me a brand new Pro after I said they would?" and Bam! he will have a new truck like that. You can't make up experience. This guy is the Chuck Norris of customers that will beat that dealer down. .

What dealer in mass? I'd demand a new truck or F them hard on a review. Call Corp 100%

“I bought a new truck from Dealer X, and something broke! And they fixed it completely for free! But wouldn’t give me a new truck instead! They are the worst dealership ever!”

Hang on a second, I need to wipe up the sarcasm, it’s dripping.

The dealer has no obligation to just give you a brand new truck. How is this their fault? This would be Toyota’s fault. The dealership is not Toyota. I’m sorry, but this being Thanksgiving I’m a bit tired of people being entitled douchebags instead of appreciating a wonderful system where a vehicle defect will be immediately corrected. Rather than you just being told to fuck off.

My 2016 is 5 years old next month, I think the original battery is getting ready to die. If the dealer doesn’t contact Cal Wells and have him pull all the old drawings and build me an exact replica of the truck he built for Ivan Stewart in 1984 I will hold my breath until I turn blue. Head nod to my old pal Scott that built PPI frames back in the day

OP's to embarrassed to admit that, no matter what, he's still in his truck, not a new one. Might get a buff job on the paint, but still, same truck.

yeah fender protectors dont help much when you have a nozzle tech with a pie plate belt buckle......
we were taught in the mechanic schools to NOT wear a belt with a big buckle OR to move it to the side when working on a vehicle.

when I took my new taco in to have the alignment checked I MADE the service writer walk around with me and noted there were zero scratches or problems and I EXPECT my truck to be returned the same way or its YOUR ass....

This. If I have to work on something while wearing my belt, I make sure to move it or tie my hoodie around my waist
