Unfortunately that's not how it works man. Sorry. The only thing they have to do is fix it under warranty. Now the dealer might give you some goodwill swag but Toyota won't as per the contract you signed.

Maybe it did drop a vavle, that would count as catastrophic engine failure?? If the cylinder heads are scored badly they will probably send your engine to their lab for further alalysis and get you going with a new long block.

A friends car got new long block when his car over heated due to a bad water pump.

No. However Toyota could used refurb parts and they do, esp cores. Lol you guys agreed to it when you bought it. Actually it's not a big deal as long as they reman it to Toyota spec and replace wear parts with new.
In other words, they won't go to a junkyard and get an engine. However, they could remanufacture the long block if needed.

I've had cars with failures during the warranty, but not like OP. His situation is pretty bad.

I had two different Audis within a month of each other have the same engine misfire issue that left me stranded on the side of the road. Sure I was upset, but the dealership fixed both under warranty, gave me a loaner, apologized and gave me pre-paid service on a new Audi. Audi did what they were contractually obligated to do and gave me pre-paid service as a good will gesture. You should expect the minimum, but you're not owed anything more. No matter what car brand you buy, things will go wrong. There's no manufacturer that produces a 100% defect free vehicle. As a consumer, you have choices, if you're really upset, sell your Tacoma and buy a Ridgeline.

As someone who works closely with a dealership, this likely won't happen unless you have an established relationship. Their only responsibility is to repair the truck, not replace it.

All I know about the engine is no compression cyl#5. I could care less the whys and hows, the end result is a major engine repair. After some aggravating phone calls and meetings and me being unrelenting on them providing another new truck with same options, they are working on getting another truck. I was still on the same tank of fuel provided upon delivery. Seems like they are going to make this right.

Assholes usually come out on the losing end in situations like this. Be nice and they'll do what they're supposed to do and maybe a little more. Keep in mind the dealer has more experience than you in dealing with these kinds of problems.

So you should know and understand issues like this happen and it's really not a big deal, other than losing time.

oh it happens. considering my buying and delivery experience was not good, scratch on side of truck upon delivery etc. then the engine shits the bed during the first tank of fuel, thats a new truck replacement all day. not unreasonable to ask. trust me, they can handle it.

that scratch was an indicator to pass, maybe not for some but I would have said, I'll wait for the next one. it's one of the reasons I do a thorough walk-around with service when I take it in and point out that there's nothing wrong... no scratches, no dents and I expect it back the same way. Hope it works out for you man. Resale is crazy right now, get it back and sell it if it haunts you.......and delete this thread! :anonymous:

“How to win friends and influence people” is a fantastic book for you to read, OP. Lol, you come off as abrasive. I’m sure you are a cool dude, but communicating correctly helps a lot.

sorry this happened OP!! I truly hope they make it right for you and you get that new truck you want so you can enjoy it and be worry free :)

Seems like in this instance maybe its better to be a bit abrasive....saying that as someone who has a fear of conflict, never gets angry at anyone and for sure the dealer would sense that in me in one second and I would get nothing :)

Finding scratches and dents is on the buyer to notice during your personal PDI before you leave the lot. Once you accept delivery and leave the lot, you're on your own when it comes to cosmetic issues. If the buying and delivery experience was not good, and there was a scratch on the truck, why didn't you walk?
