    Hey everyone,

I have an ‘05 TRD and have had problems with it starting lately. Randomly the engine will not turn over but the all lights in the dash/radio turn on. The truck won’t start for 2 days, then it starts just fine for a few days, then back to not starting... I took a video of what I’m talking about and will try to post it here.

I’ve got 255K Miles on the engine and have never had any major issues. I really want to figure this out As I love this truck!

    Maybe just a starter?

    I appreciate any advice.

Sorry to hear about your troubles....I would check the solenoid on the starter. Had the same problem with my 1st gen with the same complaint you're having. Once replaced the truck worked fine....
Good Luck - keep us all posted!

The starter is a pain to remove, so if you need to take it out to diagnose something I’d just replace it. At least on the 4.0 4x4.

Thanks for the advice! The video would not upload to this post.

I did the ‘aggressive’ cleaning of the battery terminals and did not fix the issue. Leaning towards just replacing the starter as the next solution...

    thanks again everyone!

Replace starter or try one of the rebuild kits? Looks simple enough and tons cheaper. At least give it some consideration.

I had a 1995 T100 that had a similar problem. It turns out that it was the safety switch on the automatic transmission. I had it replaced and that solved it. I’m not sure if this would be the issue you’re having, but it is something to take a look at.

If you hear a single click then nothing it is probably the starter solenoid.
You can rebuild the starter solenoid for about 35 dollars and an hour of your time.

You can buy the contacts and plunger new from Nations Starter and Alternator for about 30 - 35 bucks. Much cheaper than hundreds for a rebuilt POS from Autozone etc.

Check this video for rebuilding the solenoid on the starter.
