Went to start up the truck today, and heard a sound, sort of a pop and nothing. No electronics on the dash or anywhere, did not even begin to crank.
I pulled the battery and went to AutoZone, tested as Good, plenty of cranking amps... it is a 2019 battery.

So without any other info, am I looking at a Starter or solenoid issue? I'll go look at fuses maybe but....

I'm still with the original of both (Starter & solenoid), 262k miles and counting... (Manual Transmission, V6)
Thanks in advance for any input, advise or recommendations...

Sounds like bad ground if you heard pop and dash lights went black.

I just put the battery back in, and with the door open, key put in - the door ajar light came on, I turned the key and she fired up as normal... SO WTF ??

I've not really done anything under the hood lately... is it possible that somehow I didn't have tightened down enough the battery terminal cable themselves at the battery post? A yearish ago I added the Headlight relay kit, with upgraded headlight bulbs... so maybe something was working lose since then...?

Probably was a bad connection on one of the battery cables and moving things around taking the battery out fixed it.

After a zillion years of experience when ever I have what I think is a starter/solenoid problem the first thing I do is check the battery itself and battery connections to be sure they are tight and free of corrosion. Then I check the other connection's to the starter/solenoid to check they are tight and free of corrosion. Especially pay attention to grounds. I’ve found the majority of times ive had electrical problems of any kind it turns out to be a ground problem. I’ve known a number of guys that have replaced a solenoid or starter and then they discovered it was electrical/wiring/poor connections.

When you heard the pop, that was an arc from the loose connection. It probably sounded like an electrical snap and not a solenoid click. Desd giveaway is dash went black with key on

yesSir @IvanhoeTaco now that you've stated the above, I think that is exactly what sound I heard. And I think that was my first time experiencing it (that event and that sound).

And thank you @Sprig for your comments... looks like that is exactly what happened, possibly my + post connection...

All of that said, i've been contemplating lately (since I'd replaced OEM housings and upgraded light bulbs) of upgrading "the big 3" or is it 5? wires and terminal post connectors... Anyone want to make some recommendations?
I have read a bunch of the threads on TacomaWorld... just haven't made any decisions .... but something is telling me now is the time.

I made a mistake a couple times. I had a car with an intermittent no start no crank. I bought everything to replace the starter and upgrade the battery cables and terminals. During disassembly I found the positive battery cable attached to the starter loose. Another was an alternator not charging. Got a replacement, found one of the wires on the connector mostly broken barely hanging on.

There’s multiple options from very cheap crap to very expensive. Just don’t use the temporary field repair type. They tend to work themselves loose. There’s military style which are nice. Makes adding on cables easy.
