Starter sticking when cold

Anyone else have their starter grind a little, like 1/2 a second, after starting it when its really cold out?

I've had this issue ever since I bought the truck, but its never really been too much of a concern since its so infrequent and only happens during certain conditions... but now I've only got 1,500 miles left on the warranty and its probably the last couple really cold days of the winter.

Whenever the temp drops to less then 10F if I leave the truck outside overnight and start it up in the morning the starter sticks and grinds on the flywheel for about 1/2 a second, sometimes longer if its in the negatives.

I've been meaning to get it fixed, but I need to leave it at the dealer and get them to leave it outside overnight when its cold. It'll be -25 tonight, so I think that should do it.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, I'm expecting the dealer to just say "yeah, thats normal when its really cold" and send me on my way.

 

It happened to me today. But it was -10° outside.

Time to buy an engine warmer?

Yep, I worried until a guy from Canada and another from Alaska jumped on and said it happens everyday, so I stopped worrying lol

 

Happened to me this morning for the first time. Glad to hear its a non issue.

 

Mine does it as well. Not worried, it isn't cold AF too often.

 

Mine did it this today for the first time...twice. Once in the am heading to work and then again early evening leaving from work. Temps were around 5 degrees.

 

Yeah nothing to worry about. My corolla did it a lot in the winter and was never an issue in 8 years I owned it. It’s been real damn cold out.

 

Haven't come across this issue as of yet...
