Is there supposed to be a clip where the wiring connects to the starter? To hold it firm in place?

Also just finished putting the new starter in and it just makes like an electrical wind now when I turn the key.

Ok correction it's my fuel pump I hear winding up. Nothing else starts. Starter doesn't do anything.

Put the old starter back in to see if maybe I just got a bad part and got the same result. Decided to get a jump and then it started to crank. After the third try it started. Any ideas? I had my battery tested a week ago and it came out fine.

It is quite easy to test your starter out of the vehicle .

    Clutch safety circuit working ??

Starter solenoid wire connection corroded ??

    Poor ground connections

    Dirty loose battery terminals ??

My plastic connector broke years ago I just have a insulated spade connector I puton as a emergency repair years ago I forgot about till now.

Time to break out the Meter

Just what lead to the starter change ??

What do you mean by the clutch safety circuit?

And by the corroded wire connection do you mean the part that I have pointed out in the pics above? They don't seem corroded.

    The grounds seem fine.

The battery terminals are tight and clear. I cleaned off the battery terminals and bought new connectors just to make sure since they were cheap.

And by plastic connector, do you mean that plastic cover that snaps on over the starter ground connection? It's there.

Went to start it this morning, it cranked, and again after a couple tries it finally caught and started

I'm wondering if I have a bad battery with a dead cell so when it does crank it's not getting that little bit extra it needs to fully crank the motor enough to start. I had the battery tested but they just brought out the meter thing. I'm gonna pull it out and have it better diagnosed.

I've had bad experiences with bad batteries so that's why the first thing I did was have it tested, which looked fine, so I started looking in different areas. So I'm gonna go back to the battery and test it some more.

I had a bad battery with my motorcycle before. Bike would start then die after a few seconds so I would start again and rev it a bit then it stayed running. Thought maybe it was a fuel problem like my injectors were clogged a bit or something. After taking it to the shop to get diagnosed they thought it was the ECM which cost about 500 dollars just for the part. So I brought it back home and did some more research before biting that bullet. Came across someone's post for a different type of bike but similar issues and his issues all came from a bad battery so I got a new one and it started and ran fine from there out.

With all that said I'm gonna test the crap out of my battery and then eventually do load testing is on my charging system to make sure the alternator isn't bad. I just recently bought it and I believe it sat for a few months so it's possible the battery ended up getting a bad cell and/or isn't being charged properly due to a bad alternator?

I have a friend that has a volt meter so I'm gonna try testing the colts to the starter. Does anyone have the idea of the correct volatage that's supposed to be at the starter?

The starter grounds through the bolts unless someone has installed a ground wire to one of the starter bolts

Your truck has a clutch safety circuit that only allows the engine to crank with the clutch pushed to the floor.

Some trucks have a button to over ride this some don`t

If this circuit is open it will not start

Clutch is to the floor or I've tried using the button. I think that's fine and working properly. I just found it weird that it's not working then when we hook it up to jump then it starts working. Then this morning it starts cranking and trying to start on its own. I'm gonna pull the battery tonight after work and get it tested tonight or tomorrow. I've been saying this whole time, jokingly, that it's probably something so small that's causing me my problems lol
