Noticed that the Tacoma has been having a few issues starting recently. Only have 25k on the thing and every so often it will sit there and crank over but not start. It will only start when you start feathering to flooring the gas pedal. Leads me to believe a potential fuel issue. Anyone else ever deal with this?

I had the problem with mine at about 45k miles. The truck never failed to start, just took 2-3 times the normal amount of time to turn over. The truck also had a low rumble noise that wasn't normal at very low RPMs when the engine was cold but once the engine heated up the noise went away. I took it to the dealership and they were unable to diagnose any fuel/exhaust issue, which is what I thought it was, but they did change my spark plugs per my request and that was their best answer to what the problem is/was. I got the truck back earlier this week and haven't had the issue again, so hopefully it was just the plugs. Wish I would have known the original owner didn't change them at 30k like they were supposed to.

I have the exact same issue with my 04, subbed for outcome. Every so often it will barely start and only when I give it throttle. Runs fine otherwise. I had my plugs changed about 10k miles ago and it didn't fix the issue

The 3.4 is notorious for this exact issue.

Tacomas do have a common hard start every now and again. Yours sounds more extreme though.

I've had this problem twice now in the last few weeks. Both times the engine had been running and was relatively cold (both engine and outside air temp). Got the engine started again after giving some gas but then seems like the engine is nearly flooded until it runs for a bit to clear up. Reminds me a bit of vapor lock or other carb problems who would have with older cars.

Anybody have any other ideas from what has already been mentioned?

    Thanks.

I had this issue at about 30k. Dealership wrote it off as sparkplug and that they needed to be changed. Apparently if it is too cold, the oem don't have a hot enough spark. When it did it again at about 70k I change the spark plugs myself and replaced the oem with a hotter spark plug. Haven't had ano issue since and I'm almost at 100k.

I have this issue every so often on my 2010. I have a remote start (VIPER 5901) installed and it will attempt to start it for 8 seconds. It wont fire. If I intervene and manually start it fires right up. Its so random though, once every 30 starts but recently something like 1 in 10.
