I'm going to be trading my 2005 Tundra for a late-model or new Tacoma double cab and I've got a couple Tacoma questions:

--does the Tacoma's cabin filter actually filter the cabin's air (great relief for allergy sufferers), or does it serve only to reduce vapor emissions from an engine that's just been turned off?

--will I have any problems towing a typical car trailer carrying a 3,200 pound car with the 236HP V-6 with auto trans?

--and what is the wheelbase difference between the 2014 double cab with (a) the short bed, and (b) the long bed?

Many thanks for any info you send my way.

The cabin air filter filters the air entering the cabin.

Buy a Ford ECO Boost. Maybe a Ram or Chevy. All are better towing vehicles and can be had for about the same $$$.

    Don't know. Ask Toyota.

Gotta get an online brochure. That'll have the specs but wheel base goes from 127.4 to 140.6 on the longbed doublecab.
You'll need the towing package; larger alternator, battery, second tranny cooler, engine oil cooler, harness and trailer brake adapter.
    Tow max is 6400.

You can easily use a dolly, but a full trailer and car will put you in harms way.

If you're set on a trading in for a Tacoma, skip the used late-model and go for used. Anything less than 3-5 yrs old pre-owned isn't going to be much less than a new model. Resale is pretty good on these, won't cost you too much more to get something with less than 100 on the odo :)

Like you, my name is Ron, I was in the Air Force, and just traded a 2005 Tundra for a 2014 Tacoma and tow a trailer...

I completely agree with Stephen, 3-4 year old Taco's with 50-80k miles are asking within 2k of what I paid for mine new.

My trailer is a single place PWC - maxing out at between 1,000 and 1,200 lbs total towed weight. I have only towed it twice (just got the Taco on Memorial Day), but I don't even feel it behind me. Quadrupling the tow load would be a different animal. You'd be working the Tacoma pretty hard in hilly terrain. A brake controller would make slowing/stopping a piece of cake, but climbing out of SoCal could be asking too much.

Thanks, guys. Great information. And Ron, I'm guessing your new 2014 Tacoma has the V6/auto trans combo. Did you get the tow package, too? And do you have the back-up camera? If yes, how well does it work? Sounds like something I'd like to have. Ron...
