I have 2012 Tacoma that will not start. Here is what happened the day the problem arose.

Woke up for an early morning fishing trip, truck started without issue (normal start), backed the truck into the garage for loading, approximately fifteen minutes later, NOTHING - zero clicking, headlights will not work.

Several dash icons will appear when trying to turn on followed by dash light flashing on and off.

I then jumped it and drove around town for a good fifteen minutes thinking it was a battery issue. Got home, turned it off, tried to start it - NOTHING again.

Checked the battery terminals- both were snug and secure. There was slight corrosion, that was cleaned - no start. Battery cables are in good condition.

Pulled the battery and had it checked - good battery. Pulled the alternator and had it checked - good alternator.

Checked the fuses - fuses are fine.

I'm thinking it may be the starter or some kind of switch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've been hearing from folks to do that. What am I looking for or sounding for when doing that?

Starter solenoid engagement which will thrn crank your engine over. If it does that, your starter contacts are most likely corroded or dirty. Pull starter and inspect and clean as necessary.

"Starter solenoid" is what U really want to hit not the starter it self.
    12TRDT gave you excellent advise.

did you load test the battery? Sometimes it will have good charge but one of the cells are bad and when you put a load on it, it wont start.

Well, if anything is bad or not working, just bang on it with a rubber hammer....Goes for cars, appliances, electronics, kids...

Don't think it is the starter, if the headlights don't work.

    Probably battery.

If it will start with a jump, it's not the starter, it's the battery.

Had this same issue with my 2013 about a year ago. Troubleshooting led me to battery. Went an bought a Optima Red Top. Haven't had an issue since I installed the new battery. Not sure what's up with the stock batteries other then maybe poor quality?

Battery. I had a battery that I had check and voltage came back good, put a load on it and failed.
