the bed open pockets... put two small holes in it (super easy to drill through) zip tie it to the other side of the pocket. They are easy to quickly remove, and know one would ever think a key would be there, they would just se an empty bed pocket.

The bolts have larger lip on the inside so that when the drawer closes it catches a the smaller part of the bolt preventing the larger part from pulling out.

I got a velcro key pouch like this ... http://amzn.com/B000KFSZ0C

The entire back is industrial strength velcro. Clean where you want to mount it with rubbing alcohol, peel off the adhesive back, and stick it. It holds tight. You can remove the pouch from the mounting strip, but I just leave it on there, and peel it back enough to open the flap and grab the key.

Since mine is a 2nd gen, I just had a basic key copy made .. it won't start the truck because it doesn't have the immobilizer chip, but it will get me into the truck, in the event I locked my full set of keys in there. I've also been thinking about getting another chipped key made and stashing it inside the cab itself in the event I lose my keys entirely.

I have a spare in a magnetic box (I know you said you didn't like those) and I put it in a place where it wont EVER fall off.

    Get creative.

I like the Pelican Case idea as well. I have a waterproof round flare container I got in Australia from a surplus store as well...I will be attaching that to the frame when I get time to store stuff like a key or a spare pistol mag.

I think I may go to the hardware store and find one of those velcro pouches and ask one of the guys there if he has any zip tits too.

Found the spot I'm going to put it also. Blah blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah, blah blah and blah

Go to AAA and they will make you a flat plastic key that is the size of a credit card. Keep it in your wallet. It will only open your door. It will not start you truck.

After buying my truck the dealership mailed me a plastic credit card key and had me come in so they could cut it to my key configuration. Like mentioned above it will get you into the truck...won't start it. I feel better having the real key stashed in the truck somewhere than underneth. These trucks are way too easy for some asshole to crawl under.

The problem is if you lose your key and your truck is locked then how do you get into the truck in order to use your spare?

I'd rather just stash it somewhere underneath where no one but me will ever know.

You have a cap on your bed so this wouldn't apply to you, but what I did was buy a cheap flat key from Home Depot....less than $2...and hide it under the bedliner by the tailgate.
Much cheaper than the mistake I made in leaving my keys in my snow jacket in the truck in the middle of BFE in Nevada and had to use the left foot lockout kit on my rear window slider. :D
