Although I live in a decent neighborhood, there has been a string of burglaries and brazen auto thefts lately. Just wondering if I need to take some special deterrent measures here to protect my beloved pickup (ie: a Club, etc).

Obviously gaining entry is a simple window break, but after that, how difficult is it to 'hotwire' our Taco's?

Get good insurance with a low deductible.

Beyond that nothing will stop a determined thief.

I disagree. If the vehicle is more difficult to steal or not as sought after, and there are deterrents in place (such as a Club or other), even if all they do is delay the thief another 15seconds, they do serve to make the thief move on to the next car. 15seconds is enough time for me to load up the rock salt in the 12ga.

Could always install a kill-switch, or an alarm that disengages the starter if it's broken into. Where there's a will there's a way though; no system is 100% effective. Good insurance, some kind of alarm/anti-theft device, parking in a safe, well-lit area, not keeping valuables inside your truck, etc. are the best you can do really.

    The key word is "Determined".

If they want it enough they will take it.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
If someone wants your truck bad enough, they will take it.

Getting anti theft stuff, you'll just make it take longer for them to take, and they'll look for an easier target.

Hope you never have to deal with your taco being stolen.

How do you get the word out though. Take out an ad in the paper? Post the video on you tube? Maybe they will see your trial on the news...

Aside from removing all 4 wheels after parking it, the low deductible insurance idea mentioned above seems the best.

If you don't want your truck stolen, just disconnect the battery cable everytime you park. Sure it'll take a while every time, but you can have peace of mind knowing your truck can't be started.

You can also remove the main fuse but where is the fun in that.

He's talking about theft deterrent and keeps referring to The Club..

I can't even wade in because it's not going to do anything.

I lock my doors to take care of the people who are opportunistic thieves.

I pay my insurance for the rest.

That might be hard to explain if you get pulled over. Especially your truck fits a likeness and there a recent murder.

Don't our trucks already have a chipped key and engine immobilization? Is that very easy to defeat?

These day there's gps tracking devices for under $100 and it alerts you if it moves 1". Put one on the truck and let the thieves go to town. Decide if you want a go load the salt shaker, keep the one that got awayor simply get another truck with your ins.

Any car thief with an auto loader can simply lift and tow the truck away with barely a sound. I had issues with someone stealing gas in my area and stupidly put a gas cap lock on my Gen 1 to thwart the thief- well, he drilled my cap and then the gas tank!

So I put a magnet on the back of one of these and put it on the front of my truck at night in the drive- anyone who walks up to the truck announces themselves to me inside the house before they get anywhere near the truck! Just aim it above knee height to avoid cat false alarms.

That's where thieves like to go. All the good stuff is in the decent/nicer neighborhoods.

Thankfully my garage is 22' feet deep. So my DCSB fits easily. I sleep well every night.

But I feel for you guys who have to sweat out every night wondering if your wheels or tailgate or catalytic converters....or even the whole damn truck may be gone in the morning.

    Sucks :(
