There was another solution that I considered but decided against. That was to raise the winch slightly with some spacers. I opted against this because it could possibly create more of a shearing force on the winch mount bolts because the winch wouldn't be sitting on a solid base but would be elevated on the four corners.

I agree. I have been keeping a close eye on the winch line and will call an audible if it starts to show signs of wear. It is still a new line and is looking good after 4 uses.

 

Was thinking about that just now. If I did that I would something 2"x4" with 2 holes, to give it a more solid base.

 

Why is the bumper designed in this way?

 

I think for the approach angle and provision for a light bar.

 

I'm not saying it doesn't look good, but packing 10 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag doesnt always work. Seems like function was sacrificed for form on this. I like your solution of the fairlead sandwich though.

 

Since you guys are biting your nails wondering about my winch install, I'll give you an update so you can relax.

As I'm typing this @Mobtown Offroad is fabricating a spacer plate, using the latest aerospace technology , and importing longer bolts to accommodate said spacer.

It seems this problem was discovered and elimated after the second bumper.

I doubt if it's the same on all.

That's probably good for the 140 and 200. Some, I think, should have a higher max wire speed.

Make sure you got some ventilation. C02 is heavier than air and you will die.

 

Will do. The basement door leading to the bilco doors doesn't seal well at all. Maybe I'll set up a fan in the doorway though.
