Steering column pigtail repair

Hey guys. The horn on my 2011 has quit working. I've tried troubleshooting it and at this point by process of elimination it's pretty much got to be the pigtail in the steering column.

I think this repair might be a little beyond my skills. Has anyone had it done? I'm trying to figure out approximately what this will cost. Or if it's super stupid easy let me know that too, maybe I could handle it? The proximity to the airbag is what makes me nervous there.

The Most Likely cause is the spiral cable in the steering wheel. A well known weak link. Easy to replace. Hold the horn button and move the steering wheel right and left and it it will blow in some positions it is definitely the Spiral Cable. Just make sure you disconnect the battery for a half hour before starting work. This allows the capacitors in the SRS Airbag System to discharge and will prevent inadvertent activation of an air bag and injury.

Interesting. My steering wheel has basic controls for my CD player radio. But when I purchased it I meant to get the upgraded Bluetooth and I ended up buying one off the lot that didn't have that.

it has a Bluetooth system but it does not have controls for it on the steering wheel and additionally the Bluetooth that it came with is ridiculous. Everyone I have ever spoken to on it says that I sound like I'm talking in a tin can. And it's really hard for them to hear me or me to hear them. And the speaker for it was put where it blocks the view of the fuel gauge, which is probably the dumbest thing about this truck. I bought a $30 Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the auxiliary port and the cigarette lighter and that is what I've been using the whole time because it works better.

 

If you go with the upgraded controls , you won't be disappointed
