I had my intermediate steering shaft replaced today @ my local dealer ship in Newfoundland, Canada.

For other Canadians the TSB # is 3413.

Had a few secs and thought I would call a local west coast dealership in Victoria, and was quoted $430 for the intermediate shaft. Good news is they had them in stock, but really?

I will definately be ordering this out of the US for that kind of savings. Guess that's why I went down south to get the truck in the first place.

Anyone know of a good dealerships/sites that ship OEM parts to Canada?
If not, guess I have to wait until Nov when I am there.

    Thanks.

I got mine done Saturday. Ahh... no more cluck when going down my gravel road. The steering wheel feels more solid even when driving on the highway.

Anyone run into warrenty issues on this TSB with a lifted truck. I've done the tie-wrap fix and would like to get the TSB done. Not sure if the dealer will throw me crap for a 2.5" lift.

I don't have that much of a clunk, but this sure sounds like the problem I have. The steering just feels sloppy. It's gotten worse though. When I first got it, it felt fine on pavement, but it felt crazy on even slightly rough roads. It almost feels like the wheels are just going wild.

But for the last 20k miles or so, it's felt a little sloppy even on some pavement. I tried the zip tie thing, and it seemed like it made it feel slightly better for a while. Now it kind of feels like it used to to some degree. I guess first thing I should check the shroud back off and see if the zip tie is still in place.

Anyway, I'm well out of warranty, approaching 55,000 miles. Has anyone installed this part on their own yet? Looking at the instructions on the TSB, it seems fairly simple.

Looking at the pic of the part, I have a very hard time believing this part is making that big of a difference. But it seems like everyone here who has had it done seems very impressed, so I'm interested.

Had mine fixed. Problem solved. When I took it to the dealer though the tech said he couldn't feel it. We had a slight discussion and they finally swapped it.

Is this the sound the tsb fixes? Over bumpy roads only I hear this, cant get it to make this noise unless I am on washboard roads or more rough roads.

Well, I'm pretty sure I have nothing that sounds so extreme. Mine just feels like the wheels are loose and going wild on dirt roads.

Dealers say all kinds of crap. You can look at it and should be able to tell, if nothing else have a second person down and around while you drive it trying to pinpoint... it's the best way to fin dit.

haha mine told me the same. When i got home i took the skid off and still makes the noise. I tuck my truck to another shop and found the bushings bad in the rack. Toyota said they will fix no problem:D

After a few weeks of driving with the replacement shaft I am not sure If I have a different issue but I can feel some play in the steering under small pot holes, ruts in the road, etc.

I jacked up the front and checked for play in tie rods, sway bar, ball joints but everything seems tight.

Are these trucks known for sway bar bushings wearing? Could not detect much movement but sometimes sway bar bushings only show wear with a lot of weight on them.

But the clunking off road on bigger holes is 100% gone.

Haven't really ever noticed this going on but my rack was leaking and had it rebuilt coupla months ago and they also gave it new bushings. I have a set of Energy suspension sway bar frame bushings that'll be going on very soon. Haven't noticed any issue with oems, just nice easy upgrade and they have zerks on them.

That's not it. That really sounds tinny like your skid plate bent up into the frame. My old 02 DC plate would resonate at a certain rpm pulling up a long hill on the interstate. In the cab sounded like a rattly valve when your in the truck. Turned out to be the oem skidplate. TSB fixes the shaft where it splits at the coupler. I could actually see it move side to side when you moved the wheel. Too much play on my new 2010.

Sorry didn't read all the other posts. If you checked the skid plates, check some other exhaust heat shields and other thin things like that. It does sound a little squeaky though could be a spring or sway bar bushing. Spray them bushings down with some silicone spray!
