Just a question for those of you experiencing these issues. Are you all Double Cab owners? Also is your truck a USA build or a Mexico build and what's the build date? I have no issues to date yet or recalls. My truck is an Access Cab Off Road and is a US build in December of 2016.

Do you happen to know the part number for the new CPS? My dealer is struggling to figure it out...

Cracks me up too... going in for my 15k service this week ahead of a trip and I shared my self-service experiences since I pretty much gave up on them. when I tell them of cleaning a MAF, tightening loose u-bolts, greasing dry u-joints, and replacing faulty CPS sensors they just head nod as if I must have been making this stuff up and the improvements are placebo.

Yes. It didn't look terrible, but it was dusty in places and likely had some assembly grease or something on it. though in retrospect I wonder if my failing CPS was causing premature detonation or something and pushing stuff back into the intake. just a loose theory based on my limited knowledge. but yes, cleaning my MAF was a smart move - it wasn't reading properly, that I know.

sorry man, ready back a few pages through everything and it was all answered.

My initial thought was, how are they dirty enough to cause issues on a new truck. The thread
caught my eye when you mentioned the vibes/shakes in the steering wheel that seem to come
and go on the exact same roads and that's EXACTLY what I find. I thought, meh, must need an
alignment or the balancing is off but how the hell can that be when it acts so differently day to
day on the same roads under the same conditions just baffles me.

Not that it seems to matter (in my case) but check to see if you're on the CPS recall list. I'm not seeing the same kind of day-to-day inconsistency since swapping my CPS.

Checked it when it popped up a couple weeks back - no for me on this
one, I am part of the weeping diff. recall.

I wasn't on a recall list for either, but I would suspect that once more of these CPSs fail or worse, destroy other components first it will expand. No one will ever convince me my CPS shouldn't have been on a recall list.

hell, if things got better after you replaced it I'd say good job. Agreed, much
like the diff recall, the more we see those "not" on the list have issues the
bigger that list is going to get.

Just took likely my final trip to the dealer outside of any warranty recalls / TSBs that may arise. I just had them do the 15k service - which is really looking at the same stuff I can on a scan gauge and rotating the tires, but also had them go ahead and do another oil change - excessive @ 15k I know, but figure it can't hurt. I was also going to go ahead and change my own front/rear diff, but since the dealer will do it for $110 and that gear oil is expensive I went ahead and let them do it though I'll confirm they filled it up to the correct level anyway.

When I mentioned the MAF clean, intake looseness, and CPS replacement its like talking to a zombie who has been programmed to ignore any words that come out of your mouth that may not be yet acknowledged by Toyota. "uhuh, ok... here's your bill" Anyhow, I tried to help/educate them in case someone else can be helped down the line.

Trucks running great - I don't even think about how it's running anymore and am driving in D, even in town, most of the time - which is a luxury. Running ethanol free pure gas, even the chirps are gone and I have my common routes throughout my region all mapped out where I can get e-free from a trusted station. I'll pay an extra $5/tank just to keep the chirps at bay :)

Vibes...still there and eventually I'll get them worked out but they are no longer the kind of vibes that are troublesome.

Perhaps placebo, but it did feel even smoother overall after the diff fluid change. As of today the truck drives BETTER than it did the day I drove it off the lot!

Have had some minor vibes on acceleration so I cleaned my MAF today and reset the computer. Might be all in my head but just filled up a fresh tank at my usual station, we'll see if there's any difference..

I doubt the dealer will use LT fluid.

Probably right about that... I'm headed out with the wife for a week in the mountains and wanted to get it done before my trip, but didn't have time to do it myself beforehand. Will likely change it myself in a few thousand miles. Hell they even called me back to basically ask if I was crazy having the diff fluid changed before 30,000mi... oh well, not going to get hung up on the stealership experiences. Trucks driving well and that's all I can ask for now

Bumping to ask if anyone who had a dirty MAF would post a picture of what it looked like prior to cleaning. While skeptical, I removed my MAF to clean it and upon removing it, found it literally clean as a whistle. Zero dirt, oil, gunk, etc on either the internal plastics or the hot wire, at 10k miles. I remain skeptical.

I was just in a hurry to see if anything would work so I didn't take pics but mine had what appeared to be a bit of film on the hot wire and there was a bit of dust (looked more like tiny plastic shavings from manufacturing honestly) but it didn't look "nasty" by any means. Cleaning it did instantly make a difference though for me. You won't hurt it by dousing it w/ CRC though so if you took it out, only 2 more minutes of your time to make sure it's good to go.

I did go ahead and spray it since, as you said, it was already out. No change in behavior. I'm not sure how the MAF would impact vibrations though, either, TBH. If these are vibrations felt while casual driving and they were somehow tied to improper AFR (highly doubtful), the MAF would have little to do with that since you're in closed loop and it's responding to O2 sensor feedback. Resetting the ECU, I could see...since it's going through relearning and clears learned fuel trims, changes shift points, etc. MAF alone...very skeptical.
