You just run S-4 or ECT + S-4? After a reset, I actually like the shift points. then slowly find myself needing/wanting to hit ECT, then eventually it keeps wanting to jump into higher gears prematurely even in ECT and I'll find myself in ECT and S-4 (around town, S-5 on the interstate). What cracks me up is that I get about the same gas mileage in S-4/ECT as I do in D so I can't imagine the stock tuning and shift points is really for efficiency but perhaps helps w/ emissions? But I can guarantee you I'm filling the atmosphere with emissions when I can smell my exhaust strongly on a 12,000 mile truck.... no smell today though, so I guess I just have to take it day-by-day for now. I hope they get it worked out on the 18s... I've spent several thousand dollars on utility mods (steps, racks, covers, etc.,) and I couldn't afford to redo that on a new chassis and still be able to do the things I want.

Never thought I'd ever ever feel "trapped" buying a Toyota. So I hope I can figure this out with some help from TW at some point. Look forward to some more data.

I cleaned my MAF. moved to a paper Filter.

    here are my results.

    nothing to write home about..

MPG have stayed crappy but... it does seem to respond a tiny bit better. I have not taken a highway drive yet so I cant compare apples to apples. Right after my cleaning and new filter my MPG seemed to drop then rebound. I didnt expect it to change the driving characteristics of the truck but I hoped for some change...

i truly think that people who are getting crap mpg are experiencing something that is going to be listed in the Recall thats about to happen

I will post again after a long highway drive I have tomorrow

Excuse my ignorance. But can someone take a picture of the MAF sesnsor on this 3.6 and what they did to clean it?
Anyone happy to create a small writeup?

To be clear though, I would deal with 12mpg if I had to to enjoy driving the damn truck again. but you are right, I see people who live in hilly areas left and right with the same package (and often more gear) as I do who are consistently putting up numbers in the 20s. In my experience though, I'll do a reset, MPGs are terrible (15ish) but the truck drives smoother. Slowly MPGs get better, but still rarely exceed 17-18 and as MPGs increase, the drivability of the truck worsens.

Yea, dealer letters are out however letters to owners will not be out until July. Most VINs I have run aren't in the recall. seems to be seriously sporadic. it's do to an excessive amount of anti-corrosion coating on the crankshaft position rotor

If I drive like with no...... acceleration I can get 16/17 ish on average.

if I drive it normal at all...... I mean not trying to go fast but just pace with traffic... I get like 12/13 mpg. if theres a straight away with no reds I can get that 16/17 mpg mark... that was before mods and after.

I'm getting 12 mpg with my set-up ... you should be getting way better if you're stock.

    1. Slightly pull out the clip on the bottom (windshield side) of the connector and disconnect.
    2. Remove the 2 philips screws holding it in.
    3. Slide out carefully
    4. Do not touch ANYTHING on the sensor
    5. sit it on a towel (connector side down - again nothing touching any part of the sensor itself - especially not the wire, even with the straw/tube for the cleaner)
    6. Spray with 10-20 sprays of MAF cleaner, ensuring you get the wire real good and any tubes air flows through
    7. Let sit for ~30 minutes or more to COMPLETELY dry out.
    8. Reinstall (carefully) along with the 2 screws and reconnect
    9. Optional: Disconnect negative battery terminal for a few minutes to reset
    10. Start up, and record/share your results.

Nope - not yet anyway. I never have felt a stall necessarily though... the slight misses yes, but if I hit the accelerator it DOES go. Oddest thing to describe though b/c it seems to be robbing power from other systems in the process.

But as of today, I am on no recall list and am making all of this stuff up - it's all in my head. :S

Well here's my daily report since the clean. This thread is slowly hitting me in the wallet. I still have some engine shudder issues. No real improvements there, I still feel it since the clean, primarily in the accelerator/brake pedal. Also, I am on the CPS recall list, but replaced mine about a month ago proactively and still feel the vibes. Inconsistent MPGs are gone though, and thankfully never had a stall. That alone would push me over the edge.

Just bought the PID pack for OBD fusion, will actually have data to report tomorrow. In the mean time I got 20.8 mpg going to work this morning (23.7 miles) and 22.5 mpg coming home. Not bad for running duratracs and about 300lbs on the bed, on par with my best mpg. Commute is 90% highway going 65ish, not flat at all. Lots of variables changing here though, as the weather is getting nicer, I've reset the short term learning, and running 89 instead of 92. Throttle still feels more responsive since the clean, but I might be installing some dynmat under the pedal mounts to stop the annoying buzz.

Thanks for the update - looking forward to seeing your data. I recorded 16 mpgs on my way home tonight, late work day so I didn't hit traffic and was mostly 65... maybe 100 lbs in the bed. Recorded several misfires..... more than I have the last couple of days.

Interested in your CPS replacement though. Which part(s) did you use? How hard was the replacement? I'm not yet listed on the recall but I'm willing to try anything - misfires are worrisome....
