Had this problem a few months ago which completely resolved with a power steering fluid flush. Started again recently. Steering “grabs “ randomly at all speeds. Might turn smoothly, then grab and get tight, then release. Fluids are at max (dexron). Is power steering pump the most likely culprit?

May want to check the knuckle on your lower intermediate steering shaft!
    They rust and bind.
Mine had lack of return to center.

Lower steering shaft u-joint. Hit it with some penetrating lube like wd-40, if it smooths out you found the problem. Lubing it once or twice is OK, if it keeps binding it should be replaced

NO DONT USE WD40 its to dry wires aka WATER DISPLACER 40th try. The oil evaporates faster than diesel fuel

soak it in engine oil or use penetratinng oil or PBBlaster

Revisiting this thread. I did the PB blaster trick, which worked for a couple months. Today I tried to replace the shaft but ran into an issue when trying to lower the steering rack mount. The driver side bolt is in upside down and won't come out unless I cut it (or remove parts of the engine--no thanks). Anyone know what this part number is? It's the long 5-6" 17mm bolt.

    Thanks.
