I purchased SEMA wheels for my 18 Sport during the 40% sale and had them installed last week. They swapped over the OEM tires with 15k miles on them. Since then, I've noticed what feels like a shake in the steering wheel while cornering. Only feel it while actually moving the wheel. Straight-line travel and consistent cornering, I don't feel it. Thoughts?

Is it at all speeds or only certain speeds?

Are the wheel setups lighter or heavier over OE?

Gotta look into the only change point, the wheels... was an alignment done? If not most probable is a balance issue. Swap wheels/tires from front to back and retest.

Mostly notice it over 20 mph. I believe they are a little lighter than the OEM wheels.

Alignment wasn't completed. I actually had the tires rotated at my 15k service a few days after having the wheels installed and I noticed it before and after. If it was a balance issue, wouldn't I feel it during straight travel as well?

Do pro wheels use the same lugnuts as your sport wheels? If so, maybe have them pulled off and re-torqued?

They used the same lugs. I might swing it by the shop that installed the wheels this week sometime. If they don't see any problems, I'll drop it off at Toyota.

Check your lug bolts, make sure they are tight.

Probably warped the front brake rotors when they socked the lugs nuts on with an impact wrench...or TPMS sensor is broken off inside the wheel throwing the balance off.

Warped rotor would not be present unless braking, and tpms sensor would give a shake at all times.

Couple things to keep in mind

shake at highway speed = unbalanced
shake that comes and goes depending on speed (usually from 55-75) = hubcentric rings needed (usually only for aftermarket wheels)
shake while cornering with possible clicking sound straight at low speed = loose lug nuts
vibration that gets louder or softer depending on what way your turning = wheel bearing
constant vibration/loud rumble = tires cupped or feathered
clicking while turning only = bad cv joint
whole body shaking like hell aka "death wobble" = never buy a jeep

I also have an issue after the SEMA wheels were installed on my factory sport tires. I had them installed while doing the 15k service at the dealer. Also had an alignment done.

My steering wheel seems to have way more feedback in it now, kinda shaking from side to side some while at highway speeds. My first thought is check the lugnuts since it was done almost a week ago. Seems like the problem crept up in the past day or so. Kinda forgot to do it last night.

So, no balance and alignment since the install?

They balanced when the wheels were installed but did not do an alignment. I just went by the shop and they said it’s probably alignment. They didn’t realize the offset was different when I had them install them. I’m dropping it off in the morning for them to check the alignment.

If yours was fine for a little while, then started to wobble at highway speed then a weight may have come off. This will be hard to check, but if you look inside the wheel there may be a clean square of wheel where a weight used to be (though it might be from the old weights)

There wouldn't have been any weights previously on new wheels. Mine feels more like tramlining where the road causes it to wander. Will check the weights though.

Could possibly be related to the increased width of the track. I believe those wheels have a different backspacing than the oem sports, giving you about .9 inches wider on each side. Possible that the increased track is not playing well with the sport tires.

    edit
"Increased Wheelbase: Wheelbase is the distance between the wheels on the same axle. The tramlining effect increases as the wheelbase increased. If you install wheel spacers to move out the wheels little for stance or handling purpuse, remember that it will increase the chances of tramlining."

They do create a wider stance. May need a different alignment setting to negate the tramlining
