I'm just curious if this is a trait of the truck or not. It seems when I drive it, the steering wheel is loose and you have to basically got back and forth a little bit to keep it straight. Not that it's pulling if you let go, but hand on the steering wheel - you've got to go right and left a little bit.

Mines a 2017 - I've had it a month now and have 550 miles on it. I've replaced the tires on it (not because of this) and it still does the same. It's been a long time since I've had a truck. I traded my 14 Lexus IS 250 F Sport in for this Tacoma TRD Sport. I didn't expect it to be as exact, so I was just curious if anyone else has noticed this. I tried doing a search on here for steering so maybe I didn't use the correct wording if anyone else, if so I apologize.

Not normal, take it in to the dealer. Let us know the outcome.

definitely not normal. this is the tightest steering I've had on a vehicle since my original e30 in the 80's.

I've had some impacts to my steering that seem to be related to weird timing logic. I know this sounds ridiculous and I'm sure folks will blast me on this, but try premium fuel and see if your steering "feels" different. I still have some variability in steering feel to this day. At times it has been overly tight and heavy, others really light and loose like you're describing - with OVTune, it is consistently pretty tight though without the heaviness.

I took mine into the dealer complaining of power steering problems, they kept the truck for a day and concluded NORMAL (nothing wrong with the steering column/pump/etc.,) even though they agreed it was variable across different test drives. Yet another reason I gave up on dealers and just started troubleshooting and fixing things myself...

I've had my 17 off road for two months, have about 3700 miles on it and the steering rack started leaking bad enough for the power steering to go out.
Took it in and they had to replace the entire rack. :/
Part was on back order and they had my truck for 2 weeks waiting on the steering rack to come in.
    Definitely get that checked!

    Have the alignment checked.
Most of us have been told 2 free alignments...
Takes all of 5 minutes if the dealer has the quick check.
