I've been wondering if a harder material like delrin or even SS might be the way to go. Since a lot of rack failures result from the 2 part case flexing or even breaking, it might be similar to a similar problem with light full size Chevy racks that a lot of prerunner guys break due to a similar 2 part cast case.

A local fabricator specializes in Chevy and has a pretty built shop truck with a stock rack that he said he has never broken a rack with once he put these bushings and billet clamp mount on.

    I don't think he's making it up.

A small company started making billet passenger side clamps for 1st gen / 3rd gen t4r's stating that that stamped collar will flex too much allowing the case to pivot and flex and crack too. I probably won't be buying their part, but am thinking about welding / boxing in the stock one.

The difference between this and IzzyFab's is his solid mounts the clamp to the rack with pinch bolts rather than a bushing.

I'm still having issues and wondering if it's the polly bushings or something else. I was out on a trail the other day and when I came down it moved the positioning of my steering. I ended up pulling up to a rock and turning my steering wheel into the rock to straighten it out a bit. I don't feel like it's the bushings, any idea what this could be or areas I should start looking?

I’m still new to trucks, so take this with a grain of salt. But to me it sounds like your rack & pinion may be shot

I replaced both front sway-bar links, outer tie rods, front sway bar bushings, rack and pinion assembly + bushings & fluid under 20k miles. I have hard time believing it would be shot, but there is a possibility.

Oh you replaced the whole rack already? Sorry, I must have missed that. Still though, like you said there’s a chance the rack may have been DoA, slim as it may be.
