Any other problems or issues with the rack or steering? If not, I imagine very slight play could be normal. Not positive though.

Someone on here had that problem and it was in the column behind the steering wheel. I think it was a pin that was loose.

Is it play in the steering wheel? Or play in the rack itself? Could easily be tie rods as well.

    My experience:

It looks as though as soon as the steering wheel is turned, the rack begins to move. And when the steering wheel is turned in the opposite direction, the rack also begins to move, so I think the linkage between the wheel and the rack is tight (as it should be).

Before I had my rack replaced, the tech showed me how much the rack was moving. After the rack was replaced the tech showed me that the rack did not move at all. Both times the truck was NOT jacked up. I had the ES bushings installed at the time. :notsure:

When my rack was replaced, the tech also replaced both LBJs, and both inner tie rods.

Maybe the rack is just bad... everything i have checked is tight. Tie rods, bushings, steering wheel, ball joints, control arm bushings.

    Pretty much stock right now
My '01 rack moved like that before I replaced the worn out bushings. Solid as a rock after. Used energy suspension bushings.

Are you sure everything is good with your bushing installation?

Did u get the right bushings for your model year? Some companies show different listing for 95-00 vs 01-04 not sure if there is a difference in bushing size and thickness !

I ordered them trough my local 4wheelparts. The modle # on the box was different than what was on the instruction sheet with the bushings inside but 4wheelparts insisted they were the right ones and they put those instructions with every box. All the bushings seemed to fit and are very snug. I had to use a clamp to press them into the rack. I dont get why i still get full rack movement

Seems like only one side really has play. The passenger side "C" clamp has way more play than the other side. How is that??

Make sure you installed the c clamp the right way. Check the video around 20:50

The longer part of the bracket goes on the bottom
