I've not found any threads about upgrading the steering box or gear ratio of 1st Gens to increase steering response. Going back and forth between the '97 Tacoma and a 2015 Outback, I notice a significant difference in the number of revolutions of the steering wheel required to turn the truck vs the car. (Stock steering wheels on both vehicles.) Is no one modifying steering for a quicker response?

Stock rack is barely adequate for lifted trucks on bigger tires, so I don't think you could regear/swap the rack w/o addressing the fairly weak PS pump. (Unless you really want to beef up your forearms)

More to the point, though, the slow steering response is pretty standard-issue for a pickup truck that's not exactly designed for killer on-road handling. Most people who modify steering are going in the opposite direction -- a SAS swap for better offroad performance.
