Ok. Long story short. A few weeks ago I was using the foamy engine cleaner to clean my engine bay. I've used it several times before without any issues. Not this time though. After using it I now have a squeal with I turn my steering wheel. From what I can tell itonly happens when I turn. It's not a constant sound. I didn't have this issue before the cleaner. I figured I've got 126k miles so replace the belt. Maybe there was some residue on the belt or the chemicals enlarged the belt. So I bought a Toyota belt from the stealership. Still squeals. I did a fluid flush with ATF and it is all pretty and clean. It still squeals. Ok. Damn. Steering pump time. I got a deal on one on Amazon for $75 so I replaced it. Guess what? It's still there. Better but still audible when I turn. I'm outta ideas now. Doubt it would be the rack. Do I have a pulley problem? I wouldn't think so since it only does it when i turn. Looking for guidance, ideas, prayers. Lol. Thanks in advance.

    Is belt tension correct?
    try belt dressing?

Is it the belt and not the pressure bypass?

I assume the belt tension is correct. It's pretty tight as it should be. What is belt dressing? What's the pressure bypass?

belt dressing is good on salad, JK

used to help prevent slipping, comes in a spray or compound in many auto stores

pressure by pass is when too much pressure is in the line and the relief valve open making a squeal

Probably a pulley. Or the tensioner. @XPOTRPR had a similar issue.

The reason you have a noise only when you turn is because you are putting the most strain on the drive belt when not moving and turning the rack/steering wheel

I feel like belt dressing wouldn't fix the issue only mask it. The squeal is constant when turning. Would it be a bypass? Anyway to check? Never heard of this.

Ok I was thinking pulley as well now. Any easy ways to determine which one?

Pull the belt and check for play.

Or be anal like me and replace all of them.

I ordered all the parts from mcgeorge toyota parts and they were about $270

I have all the part numbers as well, if you need

You mean pull the belt off and check the pulleys one by one for play, wobble and noisy bearings?

Good rule of thumb anymore is to at least replace the tensioner with the belt. I'm opting to do the belt, tensioner, and all three idler pulleys.

Hopefully i don't need or find anything else wrong like a crank pulley :boom:

As @AR15xAR10 stated... Pull the belt and check the pullies, replace the belt since it's easy, and start there. In my squeaky case.. my tensioner was bad, but only showed symptoms during startup. Once warmed up, it went away. So check everything else (pullies and belt) first.

I'll remove it tomorrow and check them. The belt is a week old so it's fine. Thanks for the information.
