Anybody have any tips on the steering universal joint.

I find a ton of information all about 2nd gen intermediate joins but nothing on. 1st gen.

I was hearing a funny noise when turning. I thought it was the clock spring but now I know its this.

It seems to have a lot of play and it binds up like I'm at the end of a turning radius from time to time.

Is there a repair to this or just replace?
Is this an OEM part or aftermarket just as good?
Any other tips or information for this?

Maybe. I dropped the column as shown in that thread thanks to a thread ?here? I think?

It's surprisingly quick to get to that point even though it looks like the "entire" dash has been torn apart. Basically 2 bolts hold the whole thing in, which is the genius of whoever devised the technique. I did it to tack weld the notoriously noisy splines.

Basically my point is that removal will be easy. I've never tried to replace the actual u-joint so I don't know if it's staked (doesn't look like it) but others more knowledgeable than me will chime in
