So over the course of this weekend, I started to notice my steering wheel volume button lag to raise or lower the volume. I have to now push the button multiple times before it finally responds and rapidly raises the vol 3x 4x etc... Sometimes it doesn't respond at all. Its not just the volume, its the track skip/back as well. I was assuming its the whole button not making contact but the fact that it responds to the amount of times I push it makes me thing it registers the request just executes it really late now. Any ideas of what it could be? Its an aftermarket head unit and I've had it in the truck for over a year with no issues. I reset the head unit to no avail.
Truck is a 2016 with no issues at all to date.

Is it possible to remove that button/control and clean the contacts?

    Thanks in advance.

It doesn't seem dirty contacts would effect all functions equally.

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes.

The steering wheel controls work off resistance, like a computer keyboard, not like normal switches. So the fact you can press multiple times, then the HU responds delayed but still changes by the # times you pressed, makes me think it’s the HU and not the switch itself. I’m also assuming you don’t have anything in between the two like a maestro unit? If you do, that’s the culprit.

Thank you, I'll give that a try.

Thank you for the info. Certainly hope its not the head unit but I can see where the possibility points that way. No maestro unit or anything in between. Gonna try the battery disconnect as suggested.

You may want to try to reset the HU configuration for steering wheel controls, see if that helps. Set it back to factory then configure the controls again.
