I've made complaints to them in the past, it doesn't become a recall unless they see enough complaints, especially safety-related. A GM, Chev service writer once told me to keep my receipt as this may become a recall. I added to the NHTSA complaints and sure enough, I ended up getting my $600 plus back from GM. By the way, it had to do with the key/shift interface lock with the auto trans.

Thanks. Valuable info there. If it isn’t already, it should be in the stickies.

Did you get this back together, this just happened to mine. Just curious what all was involved. It looks like you just clip the metal piece back in and slide it back behind the nuts and tighten it back down. Nothing else appears broken on mine.

I had this exact thing happen when I went into a ditch and back out avoiding a deer. I found the metal clip that you’re showing in the photo but when I put it where it looks like it goes the steering assembly is way too heavy. Did anyone ever figure out how to fix this?
